Thanks for the links, and quotes (typos included… I should probably double check those things but never expected to get linked on Newsarama), and for continuing on the discussion. I think there’s a certain resurgence in Girl Power, but not like it was back in The Day. When someone tells me I’ll like Supernatural because it’s like “Buffy with guys,” I just stare at them until they realize why that would make me NOT like the show.

For the record, though some of my professors might roll over in their tiny offices in the basement of the humanities building at my college, I’d rather be called a girl than a womyn any day.

Never heard of Girl Power or Riot Grrl but I remember Spice Girls and “Wannabe” was an admittedly catchy song. And Xena was just as much fun to watch as Hercules was. I’d rather watch an entertaining tv show starring an average looking woman than a masturbatory fantasy disguised as something else.

Enjoyed both this article and the Retconning My Brain which you linked to. All I can say is that it’s important for the voices of the female comic book readers to be heard. And the folks who guide the industry, in particular, need to listen to them.
