Tell Me What to Read: All You Need Is Scalped

August 26th, 2009
Author Sarah Jaffe

No, really. OK, well I do plan on reading some other books this week. Like Unknown Soldier, Gotham City Sirens, and…that’s it.

As usual, though, I’m open to suggestions. I feel like I should be reading some of these new DC books with a female lead (Batwoman? Batgirl? So many options…) and I’m tempted by all sorts of other things.

This week sees the long (long, long, long) awaited release of BONEYARD #28 from Richard Moore and NBM. It’s the final issue of a great series which, if you haven’t read before, you should check out.

Boom! Studios has a JENNIFER’S BODY hardcover hitting, and while I haven’t read the book (yet), some friends of mine have and are saying nice things. It’s a prequel to an upcoming horror flick, which normally would preclude it from my consideration, but the picture is written by Diablo Cody and it’s got art by Tim Seeley and Nikki Cook in it, and they’re so good, I’d have either one of their babies.

Detective Comics is THE bat-book out there to read.

Are you not reading Detective? The Batwoman arc is very good (I call it an arc though I’m sure she’s scheuled to hold the lead for some time). Excellent art, fine story, super-weird villain – it’s all good!

BTW, completely off-topic – what are your thoughts on Irene Adler’s column at Bleeding Cool? Just curious.

    Cheers,

KING CITY! Brandon Graham’s art is amazing and the story is fun and just plain cool. Here’s a preview: http://www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album.php?aid=30197

I suggest skipping Batgirl. Detective Comics/Batwoman, however is a definite recommendation.

Detective is a good read, the art is outstanding, however I feelt he pacing in both the Batwoman and Question back up to be slow, but it’s Rucka and he usually pays off in the long run. And though it may not be your taste the Blackest Nights tie in have fufilled my pulp zombie fix with a dash of super hero for the time being. I think the Titans one coming out this week should be a good and twisted read. I have yet to pick up my books this week though. And Batman & Robin is Grant Morrison creating odd and sadistic new villains… I seem to have a dark streak in me this week lol… ;x
