Also, have to agree with those who say that this isn’t really the “classic” Legion. Troy, I think the world of you, man, but it’s an amalgamation of a few different aspects, a GJ dream Legion.

I’ve always been against any supposed “unbooting” of the Legion anyway, since it seems disingenuous to me. You can claim these characters are the same at those Paul wrote, but they’re not. These are the characters Geoff’s writing, and he’s going to tell his stories, moving them in his own direction. Does it matter if his stories are extensions of Paul’s or Keith’s or Dan and Andy’s? In the end, the stories we’re getting are still Geoff’s. To me (and I’m pretty anti-fanboy like this, so take it with a grain of salt), any unbooting is pure fanboy pandering, because after a few stories, the few traces of “classic” Legion will have filtered away anyway.

Which isn’t to say the stories are bad. Just that they’re not really what people want them to be.

I admit I’ve no read the Adventure Comics back-up yet, but LSH of 3 Worlds didn’t make long for a Johns Legion. Val’s death was one of teh great Legion moments, as was jeckie’s reaction to it. To bring him back makes me feel cheated. Think I’ll give this a wide berth

Of course, I say this, but I started reading the original series with Legion #286, without a gradual introduction. However, I came to the series from a reprint digest that also included a section featuring a bunch of new George Perez-designed costumes for all the characters, which was essentially a roll call for the entire cast. So I had that as an entry point.

I also started reading the book just as it was entering probably the last period that it was a big hit. Since then, its popularity has obviously declined. It needs to win over new readers, and it’s not going to do that with an attitude that says, “Yeah, there’s 25 members on this team; either learn them or get out!”

I love the classic Legion. The characters, relationships and the cultures and worlds they lived in were so rich and interesting, i’d love to see that kind of storytelling return. Have read all the other iterations too, but am very pleased Johns is returning to the originals.

Not sure about the Black Witch as the White Witch (and her relationship with Blok) was great. Sad to see her corrupted. Will be interesting, though, to see how this development impacts on her sister, Projectra.

I liked the new Adventures Comics story (and you could read the captions easily) so am looking forward to more.

At this point, I think Giffen should stay away from anything Legion-related — much like I feel Claremont should stay away from any X-projects.

I do agree Timber Wolf was his best (and most popular) in the 70s feral version. It was kinda idiotic that they somewhat undid that look in the 80s. His current costume — which is an update on the Silver Age costume is horrible.

And why would Wildfire choose a uniform that only accents the fact that he’s no longer human? Yeah, the clear body may be interesting visually — but it goes against the character.

I really wish DC would have just told Gary Frank to use the costumes the Legion was wearing before he got a hold of em. Maybe one or two new designs, but most of the characters really didn’t need a new look.

Yeah, most of ‘em. Gary Frank created these for the Action Comics story — and it looks like we’re stuck with em for a while. It was really disappointing that Perez had to use those instead of the classic costumes they were wearing in the JLA/JSA crossover.

My hope that is — if/when the Legion eventually gets a new title, most of the Frank designs will be jettisioned.

There was that now famous double-page spread of all the heroes of the 30th century present at the wedding and I thought that was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Since then I have collected comics and read the LSH in all it’s various incarnations.

And dog Johns out all you want, but apparently he is doing something right given the number of books he writes.

I like the little caption boxes that tell readers who each character is and what their powers are. Its lazy for me as a reader I know, but there are a lot of Legionares and versions of them.

And I was able to read the captions just fine in the copy I bought. I wonder if it just doesn’t scan well… oh well so sad Torrent users.

Because that’s not the Legion that Johns likes, so that’s not the Legion we get. That’s become pretty standard now at DC.

No. That Legion had Supergirl as a member, a Mon-El who did not check out of the Phantom Zone in Superman’s adulthood for a few story arcs, and Projectra did not take up the Sensor Girl identity until after Karate Kid died. This may be a Legion that generally resembles the real Legion, but it is not and will never be the real Legion.

What I said was that this is the Legion that existed until ’89, prior to the ’89 Relaunch/Five Year Gap. That is accurate; Sun Boy and Blok died in THAT series. As seen in Legion of 3 Worlds, the Five Year Gap Legion does indeed exist elsewhere.

As to the question of Superman, yes, Superman is returned to continuity, making it match the first 38 years of the original continuity (which began in 1958 and ran until 1989).

I was one of those people who bought into the Five Year Gap and kinda liked the the intricate stories Giffen was telling. And then liked the DnA Legion as well

But going forward then…I’d love to see them use Andromeda – orange outfit (was that designed by Hughes or Sprouse?, white boots, sassy attitude and all.

I agree with the NEED (PLEASE!) to re-design the outfits. I HATED the Kitson designs so badly. And the “Ultimates” touches…seam lines and rubber ribbing in “strategic” non sensical areas annoys me. Legion has always been a costume parade of really cool outfits.

Will call this version either L5 or L^2 for Legion Lite – not fufilling the intial premises.

PS original Levitz/Giffen legion did have supergirl who died in Crisis and pocket universe Superboy. Clone boy Kon-el was buddies with the Moy/Carani/Stern/Moder Legion/Legionnaires series (post Zero Hour team) Sorry Johns legion is the aftermath of L3W and this is the most confusing intro yet.

Could they please utilize the Cockrum/Grell era uniforms? They were far and away the best designs. For the characters added from the Giffen era onward, use the first design of each and move on. The mix and match mode will not work for the readers.

I just hope that while the Lightning Saga Legion gets focused on the other two do stuff as well since I have favorites in each incarnation.

I’ve been primarily a follower of the reboot and threeboot legions, as that is who was in the book when I started to read them. I’m excited for this new Legion, not only because of it’s rich history, but also because it has been out of continuity for about 20 years or so, it is also the perfect jumping on point.

Anyway, who do I want to see featured – XS. XS is my second favorite comic book character, and I would love nothing more than for her to be a major player in this Legion. I’m so glad that she is included. That really cements my love for this Legion, and as long as she shows up every now and again I will just keep on loving this book like noone’s business. But, yes, she is who I would like to see featured.

Also, I was a big fan of the Shrinking Violet character in the reboot Legion, I would like to see what her original Legion couterpart is like.

I don’t know what I think of the Black Witch. But I know I better beware…
