Marvel unveiled this latest teaser yesterday for the upcoming Punisher: Rest in Pieces storyline:
That’s right. Frankencastle. November 2009. And no, he is not fighting Count Chocula.
On the one hand, I can’t see this without remembering Marvel’s attempts to make the Punisher a supernatural character who was Touched By An Angel — on the other hand, if you’ve read my reviews on Rick Remender’s take on the Punisher, you’ll know I’ve really dug the series under his stewardship, and that he could make this sort of thing into an idea that’s just crazy enough to work. What say you, Rama readers?

Awww, man. Not this again. I hated when they turned him into a Ghostbuster with a rune or whatever it was on his head.

No. Absolutely not.

I’ll buy this if it’s the Hood behind it, and he has created Frankencastle with pieces of his dead family. That Hood guy is a prick that way.

Van Read, I was thinking the same thing. I would fit right in with Remender’s past indie work & current take on Punisher.

This is all getting too deep into continuity for me, as I haven’t been following Dark Reign outside of Remender’s Punisher series. I’ve stuck with it due to the 2.99 price and to see Frank (mis)using all that stolen Avengers tech so deviously. No harm in saying “wait and see,” right?

Another reason why Marvel has sucked so bad during Joey DaQ’s watch. Creative bankruptcy. Here’s hoping DC continues to kick Marvel’s ass creatively and in terms of sales. There’s simply no comparison between the two companies right now. Blackest Night = GOLD. Dark Reign = STUPID

Van Read just read my mind (no pun intended), this is the next step for The Hood, he’s gonna create some kind of monster with parts of bad guys, IMO the head is gonna be Jigsaw, let’s wait a little bit.
Peace.

I wonder if this will be used to give Castle his own Infinity Formula status, so he can be a Vietnam veteran and a 21st century vigilante.

Let’s all remember that Frank Castle died once before, and was supernaturally resurrected in Garth Ennis’ first Marvel Knights arc. So there’s a good chance he has a dead body buried somewhere.

You’re actually wrong, Colt. Garth Ennis didn’t bring him back from the dead, the writer before him did. Golden’s Purgatory killed and resurrected him. Ennis’ first MK run dealt with what happened after Frank stopped working for the angels.

Stupid idea if it is what it appears to be.

it’s hard to say how the future of this series will turn out, we’ll just hafta wait and see. on the other hand, i’m gettin’ sick of all the companies killin’ characters only to bring them back to life, such as this and Blackest Night. I can only hope they don’t turn Bruce Wayne into Frankenbats.

The problem is that Frank doesn’t roll this way. He’s never had superpowers in any permanent sort of manner, and that’s kind of how I like him. He’s a low-level boogeyman who takes on powers way beyond him with guns, some tech, and by being scary smart about it. Turning him into just another tank with a chip on his shoulder is worse than if they’d just killed him off and let him stay that way.
Bee-tee-double-you… He was killed by Daken. Daken. Wolverine’s son. Let that sink in a moment. THE WORST IDEA MARVEL’S COME UP WITH SINCE BRAND NEW DAY. THAT Daken.

Frankencastle?! BWA-HA-HA-HA!!! So there are no editors or creative direction at Marvel what so ever? Reading Marvel is as stupid as watching soap operas.

I’m a HUGE Punisher fan. I pretty much buy anything Punisher related. I’ve been collecting Punisher comics & Graphic novels since Marvel first introduced the character back in AMAZING SPIDERMAN #129. I bought the FRANKENCASTLE series because my collection wouldn’t be complete without it (I have EVERY issue of every series, as well as books that were non-Punisher titles where he made appearances.) I enjoyed the change in character as well as the story line.
Now I hope Marvel gets him back yo normal and doing what he does best… kicking A$$ and taking names.

Ever notice that the Frank Castle chatacter resembles another famous character from modern literature? Think about it for a sec. Mack Bolan – The Executioner. Those books were written by Don Pendleton. The Characters have ALOT of similarities.
