Jennifer Love Hewitt as Wonder Woman?

August 3rd, 2009
Author David Pepose

MTV has reported that Jennifer Love Hewitt wouldn’t mind wearing the Star-Spangled Swimsuit to play that most awesome of Amazons — Wonder Woman.

Her qualifications (according to her): she’s curvaceous, athletic, has a propensity for gold bracelets (this may be a problem, however, as WW’s bracelets are not gold), and she loves tiaras. And you may recall that last week IDW announced that they would be working on a ten-issue horror comic with Hewitt called “The Music Box.” What do you think? Do you think she could lasso the role?

  1. Mark Engblom Says:

    Too old.

  2. r Says:

    No

  3. Lan Pitts Says:

    Megan Gale or GTFO.

  4. Yoko Says:

She’d be horrible in the role. She’s not athletic, curvaceous in the wrong places (i.e. her hips), and a bad actress. No thanks.

  5. Chad Says:

    Please no. Please, please no!

  6. Raffaele Ienco Says:

    Not a chance.

  7. Monetta Says:

She’d look good in the outfit, but she’s too much of a sweetheart to be believable as Wonder Woman.

  8. Blake Carter Says:

Yes she could do it, and she would be fine, but I don’t see it happening

  9. Ray Says:

She’s fantastic-looking, but she doesn’t have the height nor the Mediterranean looks that Wonder Woman should have. I don’t know why people always think that WW is “All-American” despite her costume. She comes from a Greek background and should have an accent. Monica Bellucci should have been WW, but now she’s too old for it. Jeenifer Love Hewitt should be someone like Zatanna instead. She’d definitely fill out the bustier & fishnets look.

  10. tralfaz Says:

they need someone that looks like she can kick your ass but at the same time look friggin hot. I nominate Katie Lea

  11. tralfaz Says:

or how about we go with Julie Gonzalo if you want to go young or Natasha Henstridge for a more mature Wonder Woman

  12. ian Says:

    well, okay then.

  13. BookWyrm Says:

    1) She’s too short.
    2) She doesn’t have the body for it.
    3) She’s not taking it seriously. I point out the Halloween episode of BONES, where Dr. Brennan dresses up as Wonder Woman for the office costume party. The intent may be all well and good, but it just looks wrong.

  14. winteriscoming Says:

I dunno but I’d love to see her in the costume.

  15. Kevin T. Brown Says:

Though I think she’s a gorgeous woman, but this role she’s too old and way too skinny.

  16. Josh Says:

I saw her walking around the show floor Sunday……okay I didn’t see her but rather someone surrounded by bodyguards in a circle formation and thought it was quite silly. I asked some guy who it was that was surrounded by bodyguards and he said Jennifer Love Hewitt and I rolled my eyes.

Wonder Woman? Ugh no. Sorry. The look isn’t there. Wonder Woman needs to be a strong opinionated woman with unrivaled beauty and a curvaceous figure. Megan Fox would be good if DC wants to start her off young or Angelina Jolie would be perfect as an older version. Or one could cast Charisma Carpenter ….. Monica Bellucci can play Wonder Womans mother.

  17. Steve In San Diego Says:

As Donna Troy, yes. As Diana - hell to the no!

  18. AlexB Says:

    No thanks.

  19. Irwin Schwab Says:

Who cares? No one likes Wonder Woman.

  20. Indeed Says:

    I agree with Monetta.
She doesn’t strike me as the Amazon type.
She would be nice to look at in the outfit, tho. ;)

  21. JawaFather Says:

I actually think she would look good (Wonder Woman should be curvy, not just skinny), but not sure she has the right acting chops.

  22. Phylemon Says:

Not the worst option, I guess. I agree with Monetta that she is too much of a “sweetheart”, and I also don’t think she is tall enough. Still, at least she is a name actress and isn’t that horrible, over-exposed Megan Fox.

  23. KB Says:

    too old!

  24. Harold Says:

The problem with the Wonder Woman role is she’s supposed to play the ‘ideal’ woman. In today’s cynical world it’s hard to find that. Linda Carter was a rarity…

  25. mango Says:

this is like when brian austin green wanted to be hal jordan

  26. LegionLover Says:

She . Is. 30. That is TOO OLD?!
    Sad.

Can’t we just say that she’s wrong for the role, but that it has nothing to do with her age. I just mistrust any actors who “actively” campaign for a role (Sean Young for Catwoman in the 1980s anyone? Or was that just too long ago?)

  27. The Rev. OJ Flow Says:

    No, thanks!

  28. Saint Fu Says:

oh please god no. just the way she talked about her “bracelets” and her little tiara….

  29. Manny Says:

    She has the ( @ Y @ )s for it!

  30. Amit Says:

    A world of no.

  31. brendan Says:

wonder woman needs to have as much toned muscle as she does curves, j-lo-hewitt just looks like a cute big-boobed princess type. i dont see her flying around beating people up.

who was thw lady who played Leonidas’ wife in 300? she’s the closest i have seen on the big screen to what wonder woman should be/look like.

  32. Matthew Says:

I don’t get why so many people say she’s too old for the part. She’s 30…Brandon Routh is 29 and Christian Bale is 35…so, she would be around the same age as Superman and Batman.

My problem isn’t the age… I think her age is fine for the role. I think she’s too short. Other than the height issue, I wouldn’t have a problem.

  33. Stephen Says:

I think it’s awesome that that her clear downward career trajectory is marked by a rejection from our nerd contingent.

  34. Steve Says:

The actress who plays Wonder Woman should look, you know, like an AMAZON. The casting people should be looking at fitness models.

  35. Scott Says:

I totally agree with Ray, up near the top. If I were casting this movie, I’d go to Europe and find someone from Spain, Italy or Greece who had a womanly body and a cute accent — and who could act. I’ll admit that the blue eyes might be tricky to find. A Monica Bellucci “type” would be my choice though.

  36. DMC Says:

OK when did Wonder Woman have an accent? It’s not portrayed in the comics and certainly not in the cartoons.

I agree with Ray, she could play Zatanna but not Wonder Woman.

Sorry Jen but I don’t think its a case that we as fans are being too demanding of who should play the part. The chosen one (if she will ever be found) to play Wonder Woman needs to be convincing or the movie is doomed. But no matter who is chosen, she won’t please everyone.

  37. Anal Surprise Says:

Only an idiot would say she’s a bad actress (probably because she’s cute, therefore she must suck as an actress right?) but I agree that she’s wrong for the role.

Tall and at least SOMEWHAT buff are two important criteria for the role. The third would be a commanding voice, which JLH does not have either.

That girl in TNA who’s also doing Playboy soon comes to mind… but not her. Someone like that, but better looking.

    /AS

  38. Reluctant Says:

I think she could pull it off. But she’d need to be put on a serious weight training and dietary program. She’d need to gain AT LEAST 10 LBs of lean muscle. Think Jessica Biel in Blade Trinity.

  39. Mr Wesley Says:

The accent is basically used or ignored by whomever is writing the comic at that time. I know Perez and Rucka referenced it, but I don’t know if anyone else has.

As far as Love-Hewitt, I don’t think she’s appropriate for Wonder Woman, but would be just about perfect for Zatanna.

  40. Hanzo Says:

Megan Gale as WW, Linda Carter as Hippolyta. Discussion over.

  41. Joel Says:

Come on peeps. She would tone up for the role. I would personally LOVE it. And if 30 is too old….youre freaking crazy.

  42. A Newton Says:

What part of “Amazon” does she not understand?

  43. BrianH Says:

Anyone who says that JLH is too old to play WW is obviously a child molester way too into skinny little girls. Please go straight to the Megan’s law website and sign yourselves up, and leave the Wonder Woman debate to those of us who like women.

  44. Kevin T. Brown Says:

“She . Is. 30. That is TOO OLD?!”

    Yes.

Whomever they pick to be Wonder Woman should be young enough to play in 3 movies before she’s 35.

Plus she’s far too short at 5′2″. WW is an Amazon, not a munchkin.

  45. Arnie Says:

    Gina Carano. Nuff said.

  46. Joey Gee Says:

    Ahem: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  47. Fuloqwam Says:

Reading these comments… GOD fanboys are whiney. We should be happy there are people actually interested in making that movie.

  48. Andrew Says:

Anyone who says she’s too old is an idiot. She’s just a mediocre actress. Also, she just doesn’t look anything like any wonder woman I’ve ever seen. Wonder Woman should intimidate most men when she enters a room with her physical prowess, regal elegance, and palpable dignity. When I think Jennifer Love Hewitt, I think girl-next-door/scrawny/mediocre actress/bad role-decisions/loves scarves. None of that says wonder woman to me.

  49. XK Says:

God, no. Wonder Woman is an amazon, voluptuous, uber-fit, and strong-willed.

JLH is pear-shaped, and, even fully clothed, far more of a ‘girl next door’ look than anything.

Thank god this was a non-story… I clicked on the headline worrying that there had actually been some real developments. An actress trying to drum up interest from nerds by mentioning the part is comparatively mundane.

  50. Brian Says:

HA! I was having dinner with a friend this weekend & he said he thought JLH should star as Wonder Woman! Quite funny to read this now!

  51. Dirt Says:

I don’t know about Wonder Woman, but I think she’d make a great Mary Marvel.

  52. I Ivy Says:

Would be interesting if JLH took over the Lynda Carter role.

Would also like to see her as SUPERWOMAN.

  53. Duke Harrington Says:

    Cobie Smulders. Accept no substitutes.

  54. 04nbod Says:

how about getting someone from south europe to do it, give it some flavour

  55. Luc Says:

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  56. Psivage Says:

She got the tits for it.

  57. Phylemon Says:

I bet JLH would love to hear all the “too skinny” comments considering the flak she took for her weight not too long ago.

  58. DCHeels Fan Says:

    Oh, hell no.

  59. GroovyDaddy Says:

    Too old?
How old are the people posting to this forum? The woman is barely 30 years old. The name of the character is “Wonder Woman,” not “Wonder Girl,” for goodness sake.

I think J.Love might be a good match, but not as good as Lucy Lawless would have been.

  60. Bryan Says:

I’m not surprised at the backlash. She can act. I’d say give it a shot. as we see comic fans will never learn. remember when Heath Ledger was announced to be the Joker? give it a shot it might surprise you.

  61. KB Says:

Heh! Heh! I knew that “Too Old” comment would ruffle feathers!

  62. Keith Says:

    Irwin Schwab Says:
“Who cares? No one likes Wonder Woman.”

That’s okay, because no one here likes Irwin Schwab (let alone heard of him).

I’d vote for Keri Russell; she did a great job doing her voice in the animated DVD. Or perhaps Malin Ackerman; she may have been too young for Silk Spectre, but she might not be bad at all for WW - she has the sculpted Lynda Carter-type look.

  63. Johnny Smith Says:

“Plus she’s far too short at 5′2″. WW is an Amazon, not a munchkin.”

She could always stand on a box.

  64. Roger Says:

    No.

  65. Eric Says:

I think she’s a terrible actress. Fun to look at, though.

  66. PADDY Says:

I just couldnt imagine pouty JLH in any genuinely dramatic role. of any kind. at all. I cant deny that her ability to wear a tiara deserves a little consideration :) I do wonder if a Wonder Woman movie will ever be made. it must be one of the toughest casting assignments out there. I’m more concerned if the omodon warner execs could bring themselves to approve a quality script? more likely it’ll be yet another woeful p.o.s. like the massive percentage of ‘comic-based’ movies made to date.

  67. Nix Says:

If she’s serious maybe she should a character like Wasp in Avengers.

  68. Mark Engblom Says:

    Too soccer-mommish.

  69. Doogalis Says:

My first choice: Brigid Regan from “Legend Of The Seeker”
    Second choice:Sarah Lancaster from “Chuck”
    Third choice: JLH

  70. Fuloqwam Says:

It’s fine to be skeptical based on her acting ability, but stop saying she doesn’t look the part. Getting in shape is not hard for someone who is paid to do it. Haircuts and makeup are not hard either. And too old? She’s like, 30. What do you want; Dakota Fanning?

If they make a WW movie, it’s probably NOT gonna be a shot for shot remake of the comic. I doubt the costume is going to be an American Flagkini. I predict we’ll see adjustments similar to Batman’s costume in The Dark Knight, and then everybody will complain about THAT, too.

  71. modok Says:

nothing against her,..but NO,..she’s just not WW.

    All I ask is

    1) please cast a WOMAN. hence the name “Wonder Woman” not some “hot”, young, actrees in her early 20’s who looks more like she’s dressing up for Halloween, than taking on the role of a mature woman. Wonder Woman, although Beautiful, and attractive, IS NOT A STRIPPER. If she were to walk thru the door you would try your best NOT to dissapoint her in any way. you would NOT drool and want to go in a closet and please yourself…..

    2) someone who can act. I don’t care if they are an unknown,..just give me someone who can emote.

    3) LOOKS the part PHYSICALLY. like stated earlier,WW is not a stripper or a pin up. She’s athletic and Fit. pleae cast someone like that ( a “mrs Fitness model” physique) also, have the illusion of being tall.

    5) just do a good story and stick to the scource material.

  72. john Says:

Oh come one. It’s great she wants to be WW,just like say Beyonce but no way she is. Too short and not amazonian enough.

  73. modok Says:

p.s. Her costume is worn out of respect. She is an ABASSODOR. so she wears the colors of the country she is visiting out of respect. So YES,..she had better be wearing her “American Flagkini”. The Animated movie handled it very well.

    - Like I said,..stick to the scource material. there’s a reason these characters have been around so long. Stop thinking that a “contemporary audience” just won’t accept it.

  74. Kev Says:

    Olivia Wilde is my choice

  75. Beef2Taco Says:

I dont think she would be a good choice. We need someone thats gonna be hardcore of kicking butt. LIke Michelle Rodriquez. Need someone thats actually looks amazon. But no Jennifer Love… after her and jackie did the Tuxedo.. i was done.. -End of Line-

  76. dr what Says:

Yes ! I would sell all of you into chinese labour camps making nikes to see her as wonder woman!

  77. Matthew Says:

I like Nix’s suggestion for JLH to play Wasp! As I said above, I just don’t think she’s got the height to play WW, but she would be a REALLY good Wasp in the Avengers or Ant-Man movie(s)!!

  78. Sero Says:

Charlize Theron would make the perfect Amazon Princess. Great actress, tall, can do action and is drop dead gorgeous!

  79. skullduggery Says:

I like JLove and all, but no. She isn’t right for the part.

  80. djsweet Says:

I think that they should get Jennifer Gardner. No one plays exotic Mediterranean women quite like her.

  81. Metal MIsfit Says:

Great looking girl, but Wonder Woman? Nah.

  82. Josh Says:

    Here’s why she shouldn’t:

    1) Sweet. Unless they’re going for the 1940’s “Secretary” WW, she has no business being sweet. And before anyone starts all that “she’s an actress” nonsense, she’s been cast as a tough chick before, and it’s never believable.

    2) Small. She’s short, skinny and downright wee. If you want to have anything even remotely resembling that costume, you need to fill it out with an imposing woman or else it’s going to look silly.

And here’s why she wouldn’t get cast anyway:

    1) Too old. Sad but true, Tobey Maguire can continue to portray college-age Peter Parker well into his 40’s, but try that stuff with a woman and casting directors will laugh you out of their office. My stance? See below.

    2) TV Actress. Carries a lousy stigma. Especially when it’s “TV Actress that…had a movie career once and never quite made it so had to go BACK to being a TV actress”.

    3) Too well known. Not just because of the taking you out of the movie thing either. Makes it much easier to sign them up for three picture deals on the cheap when they’re young and inexperienced, so studios are getting wise to it as well.

Dream casting? Monica Bellucci circa L’Appartement. Looks, check. Acting ability, check. Presence, check. Hell, I would cast her now if I were in charge. She’s still probably the most beautiful woman on film right now, so who cares about age? Of course, she’s probably the one actress around who wouldn’t be interested. That, or she’d get cast as Hippolyta.

  83. Josh Says:

Oh, and I forgot to mention:

    4) She’s publicly vying for it. That’s the kiss of death for a high profile role.

  84. Kent Says:

I like her, but I think she’s a little too…well if she’s being cute with the jewelry aspect to sell herself (bracelets and tiara) I’d like to see more of an inkling that there is an AMAZON inside of her to bring out.

I don’t think you have to know the comic book to have an inner warrior (true warrior) that you need to bring to the role. An old soul is also something I would want Diana to have (how old is she suppossed to be? honor and yet an innocence and naivete in the new world…if that makes sense.

I don’t think Xena was that far off the mark.

  85. jason Says:

i can’t believe this got comments from 84 (now 85) people.

  86. Dave Says:

As much as I adore JLH, she’s not built to be Wonder Woman.

    Artemis, maybe…

  87. Jeremy Says:

Well the dude that will play Hal Jordan doesn’t look more like Hal than her look like WW.

  88. skyhawk Says:

    Um. No.

  89. Baensidhe Says:

The one that looks the part is Eva Larue of CSI:Miami. Ageless look- and she’s actually older than most of the actresses people talk about. She 5′7-1/2″.

  90. entwashian Says:

Charisma Carpenter has also been very public about wanting the role. And I think she is fabulous enough to do it justice.

  91. Jonah Hex Says:

For God’s sake, just bring back Linda Carter and be done with it.

  92. Red Mask Says:

Jodie Minear is the athlete I’d want for Wonder Woman.

  93. oldoneeye Says:

Wrong! JLH would be fantastic as WW. Monica Belluci would be too!!! can’t fathom why so many o u folks think either of them are too old. Also: I never imagine wonder woman as some mid-20’s cutie, I always get the idea she is 110% mature young woman. hence early-mid 30’s, perfect.
my 2 cents: Famke Janssen would also be awesome as WW !!!

  94. Edward J. Cunningham Says:

This debate is a moot point. Warner Brothers ain’t making a WW movie anytime soon. It’s possible they could have WW as part of an ensemble JLA film, but I seriously think “Catwoman” will be the last solo female DC comic book movie we’ll see in a LOOONNNGGGG time.

  95. CarolStrick Says:

Agreed: the WW movie will be a long time coming. By the time it rolls around, Selena Gomez will be the leading contender for the role. (And she can act.)

  96. kow626 Says:

no one, and i mean no one, is more qualified to play wonder woman than brooke shields. maybe they’re going for a younger versin of diana. don’t matter. brooke is the way to go!

  97. Ryan Says:

…that wouldn’t be the worst casting ever. After seeing how beautiful Lucy Lawless is at Comic Con I hope she plays Hippolyta.

  98. McEvil_Buffalo Says:

    what about Gina Carano????

  99. GeekGirlsRule Says:

Morena Baccarin (Inara Serra from Firefly)

  100. Ing Says:

    Stana Katic.

    Case closed.
