This isn’t the first source I’d normally go to for Hollywood casting news, but the Toronto Star is reporting that the cast of Futurama has reached a deal with the producers to come back to the show when it returns to TV!
The Star has learned exclusively that the voice cast of Futurama has just signed a new contract…The compromise agreement, with the studio paying more and the actors accepting less, comes after the announcement of a 26-episode pick-up here by Comedy Central.
My Guess? The cast sent in Hypnotoad, and he got things done.
Update: It’s been confirmed, by individual actors, Hollywood Reporter, and Variety. WIN!

The story has been confirmed on voice actor Maurice LaMarche’s Facebook page where he writes: “Maurice LaMarche had a productive afternoon… he finally cleaned up his backyard – threw away all the sun-scarred cracked pool toys, peeling boogie boards, an old broom, deflated faded basketball, and, oh yeah, closed his Futurama deal.”

The Toronto Star scooped Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Nikki Finke. Hurray for the little guys!

Uh, the Star is the largest circulation newspaper in Canada and ther centrepiece of a fairly large media empire that includes the Harlequin romance novels amongst other things. They’re hardly “the little guys”.

I figured that this would be the case. I also think this is sending a message to the Simpsons cast that next time, the raises will be a lot smaller.

Thats crazy. It’s been so long I almost gave up hope. Back when it first got cancelled I had hoped it’d get picked up by some other channel(alas Family Guy). Then it moved to Adult Swim and I hoped again for new episodes again…but no. Then after I had watched every episode a million times I got bored with of it…then I find out Comedy Central bought the rights!! Could this mean new episodes? Well after leaving me hanging… we finally got a movie! But it was “meh” at best and the wait was on AGAIN and hope was almost lost…and now FINALLY their bringing it back to how it should be watched in a 30 min episode formate!! All you haters out there that said it’d never happen can KISS MY SHINY METAL ASS!!!!

It’s not really the same situation, but, I suppose, if Fox cancels ‘The Simpsons’, and then a much lower-rated cable station wants to pick it up, yeah, they probably shouldn’t expect to be paid the same as they were making on Fox.

how comics are being written for the trades now. Story arcs get padded out to be much longer than they need to be, because it’s all about the trade. I’m sure that’s not true for every book out there, but often enough that it’s added to my trade waiting. Take away the often obnoxious ads, throw in the greater durability of trades (not to mention how much easier – and cheaper – they are to store/display at home), and it’s really not a tough choice for me. Discounts, lack of sales tax and free shipping at Amazon just sweetens the deal
