SCI FI Wire spoke with the producers of Smallville, and they have confirmed that Kal-El will be wearing a Superman costume in Season Nine, even if it isn’t quite like the one we know and love.
According to their report, this costume will be black and silver, not unlike what Clark wore upon his resurrection in the comics during “Reign of the Supermen.”
“Up until now Clark has seen himself as human, and he’s seen his Kryptonian identity as something to hide,” producer Brian Peterson told SCI FI. “This year he’s embracing his Kryptonian identity and seeing himself solely as a hero, almost to the detriment of living as a human. It’s really the pendulum swinging a little too far in the other direction as he finds his ground and balance between the two identities. He’s really going to be pulled back into being Clark Kent by the realization that he loves Lois Lane. It’s the crux of the year, his burgeoning love for Lois and the love triangle of Clark loves Lois, but Lois loves Superman.”
Sounds interesting. What say you, Rama readers?

I am not the biggest Superman fan by any stretch but to me it seems odd that the show would use the silver & black suit and not the one that’s KNOWN across the world ,but without knowing where ther story is going I can’t judge because who knows if he will show up in the red & blue suit by the end of the season.

I say it’s been a long time coming.

so, will the dynamic of having a secret identity ever be addressed? Lois knows clark without glasses.. everybody does.. how will this be addressed when “Superman” finally arrives?

You know – it just now dawns on me that this whole series can be seen as the origin story of Superboy Prime. That would make me feel less bad about the way they treat the characters.

Maybe this’ll move the Clark Kent character forward and get him out of the holding pattern that he’s been in for the last few years.

I can’t wait for this, this is one fo the best shows on the air and it’s only gotten better over time. I also hope they make a superman movie after this show is over, if not one called metropolis because Warner is afraid of the Superman film curse. I also hope to see a Justice League series, and maybe even the briefly mentioned “The Graysons.”

No… I think a JL live action series would seriously suck, and “The Graysons” is just a bad idea all the way around. Then again, I never understood the appeal of Smallville in the first place. I didn’t dig the teen/soap opera approach of the early seasons, so I never latched on. The teen Justice League idea seemed campy to me (though I admit I never saw any of the shows where they did that), and like someone else mentioned above I really don’t understand how this show’s Clark is supposed to pull off becoming Superman when all sorts of people have seen him sans glasses, etc. (including the person who becomes his greatest enemy).
But most of all, please don’t ever let “The Graysons” happen. Why would anyone care about the adventures of a pre-Robin? The concept seemed forced.

Why can’t MARVEL produce an live-action, weekly hour-long show? It’d easily be better than SMALLVILLE.

Actually, the suit is all black non-tights with a trenchcoat, very similar to what Jor-El wore during the trial of the Phantom Zone Criminals in the beginning of Superman: The Movie.
I was at that SDCC panel and reported a description below:

Not only clothes, but his actions, his adventures, his personality…Superman is my favorite hero!
