I don’t get it. Why does Blog@ run this thing? If you’re championing amateur web comics, why not feature a different one each week? I think I’ve seen about enough of this one.
How about one of Blog@’s editors (or whatever) popping in to give us the rationale behind the astounding level of publicity given to “So Super Duper”.

Seriously.
The art is terrible.
It is consistent, I will give it that.
But seriously.
If they ran a short contest for people to do a webcomic for Newsarama, you’d get 100 entries in less than a week that were lightyears beyond this.
Enough is really quite enough.

*COUGH* …judgmental dinks…*COUGH*
It’s so unfortunate that someone who is trying to get out there at a starting point, is immediately picked apart by the jackals on the internet who think that EVERYONE needs to know what THEY think someone is doing wrong…
Gah..
Whomever you believe is the top “web-comic” artists out there are, they started SOMEWHERE. If they were given the opprtunity to show their work somewhere that would help get their name out there, do you think they would or SHOULD refuse because there are people out there… “TRUE internet experts”… who think they don’t deserve the attention they are currently getting? So Super Duper is on here because Brian Anderson and Newsarama want it to be. If you don’t like the strip..point your little cursor at a different link.
If you think artwork is the epitome of comic strip success, you show me the best artist out there doing strips and tell me if they’re are sharing the same success as Charles Schulz, Cathy Guiswite or Jim Davis.
Artwork isn’t the whole package. Take a shot from your inhaler and calm down. If you think you are up to it, make your own strip and put it out there for complete strngers to ridicule your work…it’s tougher than you think…

Please just stop with this comic already. We get it. It’s not supposed to look good or anything, it’s just due to working for the site or knowing someone who does that this gets posted here. Give other (better) comics a chance at a little limelight and put this one to rest.

Note I didn’t make any direct commentary on the work itself. I just said that, if Blog@ is trying to champion up-and-coming work, then maybe they could give other amateurs a shot instead of running the same strip every week. Barring that, it looks like just what Matt H. thought it could be: someone on the inside doing a guy a favor.
Nothing wrong with that, but when it begins to degrade the Blog@ brand, then I think some kind of editorial explanation or clarification would be helpful.

Okay, I’m not going to knock anybody for their opinion. All I am referring to is where you choose to express it.
If you feel like this comic has gone on for too long and it needs to be replaced, why would you NOT go to the people who make those decisions?
Why are you posting on the blog specifically for the artist just so you can hop on here and and say, “I don’t think you are good enough to deserve the attention you are getting!”
What kind of ass does that?
The people who are enjoying the strip (such as myself) log on here every few days to see the next strip because we enjoy it. I don’t think it’s far superior to everything else out there, but I like it. It’s unfortunate that we who like it aren’t nearly as verbal as those of you who don’t. But since it first showed up, there’s been plenty of negative comments from people who get on here to tell the artist how UNWORTHY he is to be publishing his work on this site… And every time, Brian Andersen has been a class act about it. And it kinda pains me to see cowardly people who hide behind their screen names and send your nasty little messages to tear him down on his own space here so you can feel “superior” to someone. It’s childish and it’s tasteless…
Then you get the ones who are like, “If he doesn’t want my opinion, he shouldn’t be on here…”. Use your head. Nobody puts there work up to hear opinions like, “Your artwork is terrible” or “There’s so much better stuff out there”. That’s just the excuse people give so they can be crappy to someone and feel smug with themselves.
In all honestly, if he had a table at a convention, would you walk up to him in person to tell him he shouldn’t have a table in the convwention hall because there are other artists out there who are more deserving of the publicity than he is? If yes, then you are a world-class idiot…
Why is it you think that he is taking the attention away from some other web comic? What’s keeping them from being on here? Is it specifically Brian? Is Newsarama’s bandwidth full? If you think some other artist deserves some attention, have them submit some work to Newsarama and see if they get turned down. What virus is it on your computer that prevents you from going to see other web strips on this site?
All I’m saying is if you think the comic should be removed, have the basic CLASS to either go elsewhere, or to take it to the people who actually make the decision and explain why it’s a better business decision that they not be on here, and quit spitting all over someone’s work in public just for the sake of feeling self-satisfied.
Yeesh…

…and I gotta say it’s getting harder and herder to swear all “G-Rated” like this..lol

Hey, Troy here . . .
Let me frame this with a few bits of info that people have apparently forgotten.
1) The previous incarnation of Blog@ ran Strangeways for weeks. When we came on board over six months ago, Strangeways continued here for another month, then went over to Robot 6 with the prior crew. That remains the only strip they’ve run regularly.
2) I asked Brian, who does write for Newsarama as a Best Shots reviewer (this is no secret), if he wanted to syndicate his run of So Super Duper, at two pages a week, here. It’s a well-reviewed (yes, it is), award-nominated (yes, it is) book that’s gotten a lot of attention outside of normal fan confines. It’s a sensible pick-up.
3) Also, we’ve been running Cash Million Kids by Kyle Latino (writer of our regular Brainstorming Comics feature, which also features original strips) as Kyle gives us new installments.
4) Frankly, in the six months that I’ve been captain on Blog@, I don’t recall a single other writer or artist inquiring about running a strip here. I went out and got Brian, Kyle, and Lee Cherolis (who also did Brainstorming). I’ve also asked Wayne Bertsch (of Barfly) to do some things at some point. I would be happy to run other strips just because it would be cool, and not because I want to get rid of Brian. Some people like SSD and some people don’t, but you can say the same thing about New Avengers.
5) If people want to consider the above an invitation to pitch, go ahead. My email is psikotyk@aol.com.
Thanks for everyone’s time!
