Chris Sprouse talks the future of “Tom Strong”

June 9th, 2009
Author Chris Arrant

While not a sales juggernaut like some artists (*cough* Hitch *cough* Lee *cough), artist Chris Sprouse does have a dedicated fanbase… one of which I am a part of.  So it’s great news to read on Sprouse’s blog this week an update on his comics projects. He’s currently at work on a new Tom Strong miniseries with writer Peter Hogan called Tom Strong: Robots of Doom. While original writer and co-creator Alan Moore isn’t returning to the character, Moore has given the blessing for his co-creators to continue on the ABC creations if they would like (such as the recent Top 10 miniseries).

According to an earlier blog post by Sprouse, the plan is to do several miniseries “so that Tom Strong can live on–Hellboy-style–as an ongoing series of self-contained mini-series.” While this new miniseries hasn’t been official solicited by DC/Wildstorm/ABC (is that confusing?) yet, this writer expects a Late Fall 2009 release.

Would love to see Sprouse on JMS’ Shield instead of McDaniel.

  2. Anthony Says:

Always felt that Sprouse should do Fantastic Four.

  3. Aaron Poehler Says:

Hey, how about actually finishing the recent Top 10 miniseries instead of putting out 4 of 8 issues and calling it done? That was weak sauce and I’m leery of buying any more Wildstorm/ABC stuff until they do right by that.

  4. Bruce Logan Says:

Hmm…’m in two minds. While I fear any new writer sullying (read: Geoff Johns’ style *wangsting*) up of the Tom Strong universe…its nice to see the characters return, with at least one-half of the original super-creative-team.

  5. Max D. Lake Says:

I met Chris at a Con who told me he’s very excited about the new series and wants to keep the character going. But he was hoping it didn’t get solicited until the whole thing was done to prevent delays. More Tom Strong sounds good to me!

  7. Josh J. Says:

Chris Sprouse is a fantastic artist and one of my top favorites. Here’s to hoping he’ll be inked by the equally talented Karl Story.

  8. EricSean Says:

If I’d had my way Sprouse would have been the artist on Mark Waid’s BIRTHRIGHT. I’d love to see Sprouse do some Superman stories.

    What a great penciller
