So yeah – all those changes in Superman’s world and Batman’s world, huh? Mon-el, Dick as Batman, Chris back as Nightwing, Superwoman, Batwoman, Red Robin, Superboy and more. You’d think that these two “families” of heroes would at least get a chance to recognize the changes in the other, wouldn’t you?
Well, you’d be right. In this quick preview of today’s Dan DiDio: 20 Answers and 1 Question, we’ve got the scoop on the World’s Finest miniseries. Here’s the excerpt:
Newsarama: Dan, the Batman books will be going through their expansion in June and July, which will pretty well cover the Batman Family in Gotham, and with Red Robin, around the world. But what about in regards to the rest of the DC Universe? When and where will we see Dick interacting with the rest of the DC Universe as Batman? When you’re talking about story potential, it seems that there’s tremendous potential the first time Batman walks into the JLA’s meeting room, and everyone’s left wondering for a minute as to who this guy in the cape and ears is…
Dan DiDio: There’s a good chance that Dick Grayson as Batman will be appearing in Justice League towards the latter part of the year, which will be a fun moment, especially with the changes that are in store for the League as the year progresses. On top of that, we’re also doing a four-part miniseries for the back half of the year called World’s Finest where the changes in Batman’s world meet up with all the changes in Superman’s world. It won’t be a head-to-head Superman/Batman meeting, but everything that’s happening in those books right now will meet up.
Check back later today with the mothership for the full “20 Answers,” which covers Batman, news on the Red Circle expansion, and much more.

Great news. It seems that the changes in both families are going to last some time. (I wouldn’t like to see Bruce come back in a year. I hope he stays dead for a few years at least).
Also: check this, mbrady. In the fourth paragraph:
“where the changes in Superman’s world meet up with all the changes in Superman’s world.”

Yay!!! – a new mini-series to tell Batman/Superman related stories.
I only wish DC would publish a regular ongoing comic book title to tell Batman/Superman stories…oh wait, nevermind.

Sweet! That way we can see the Superboy meet up with Tim Drake.

Chris, you beat me to it…
I was wondering, as I read this article…why can’t this storyline just be done in the monthly Superman/Batman comic?
I mean, I haven’t bought S/B since I dropped it around issue 15 or so, but is there some legitimate reason why this story can’t be done there?

“Chris back as Nightwing.” Who is Chris?
May 28th, 2009 at 8:31 am
While I’m not going to say I don’t want to see something like this, I have to wonder if there’s any reason why this mini needs to exist and can’t simply be folded into Superman/Batman? This is exactly the story that that book exists for.

And technically, Batman’s not in the past. He’s on Earth-51. And with the doors between worlds closed, he may be there for awhile

Brandon, Chris is Christopher Kent, or Lor-Zod, son of (kneel before) Zod and Ursa. He escaped the Phantom Zone and lived with Lois and Clark for a while, then got sent back. And now he’s out again and apparently having issues with aging in huge spurts.

So, he’s basically like Bart Allen with none of the charisma.

That’s because some people may not want their story in S/B interrupted by current events. It seems that DC wants this story as a miniseries and not in the S/B books; DC’s doing this for some people who aren’t happy with into the current events happening in the mainstream comics (like me) and prefer stories outside continuity more, like S/B.

That “happy with” was meant to have a strike through but apparently we can’t have html in our comments. That REALLY sucks.

I can’t wait to see Conner and Tim back as friends their friendship remind me of Goku and Kirllian

@ Matthew – “I mean, I haven’t bought S/B since I dropped it around issue 15 or so, but is there some legitimate reason why this story can’t be done there?”
You hit it on the head right there. The overwhelming mediocrity of Superman/Batman has seen a lot of readers jump ship and if they really think the story’s worth telling, they probably don’t want to risk a percentage of their potential audience not seeing it because it’s in that title.

@Jeremy – I think that’s the best one-sentence description of the character I could imagine.

i hate to tell everyone i told you so, but i did last week in the tony daniel battle for the cowl story on newsarama that DC is planning on ressurecting the bad halves of the batman/superman(Superman Prime,Jason Todd) families in the Worlds Finest storyline.
May 28th, 2009 at 10:55 am
I wonder how many of the Superfamily will actually show up now that kryptonians are banned. Superboy, Mon-El, The Guardian and Nightwing/Flamebird under cover…not exactly a traditional Superfamily but whatever
May 28th, 2009 at 11:21 am
@Cpope – I maintain that S-Prime will be rehabilitated in Legion of 3 Worlds. Jason Todd…I don’t think Daniel knew what was going to happen to him – he pretty much said he left a couple plot threads for others to pick up, with no personal idea of where they went.

Dave Says:
And technically, Batman’s not in the past. He’s on Earth-51. And with the doors between worlds closed, he may be there for awhile
———————————
He is in the past, but it’s never stated he’s on any Earth other than New Earth, has it ?
May 28th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Why can’t this be in the monthly S/B title?
MONEY!
Another series brings in more cash.
You guys are so naieve.
May 28th, 2009 at 11:52 am
It was stated that 51 is now the Kirby Earth and since Bruce was with Kamandi it makes sense that he would be in the past of Earth 51, not New Earth.
May 28th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
Honestly this is gunna be interesting. I wanna see how Kon-El interracts w/ the new members of the Superman family, and watching everyone deal w/ Dick becoming Batman is worth the price of admission as well. Hopefully it’ll be done well..maybe even Geoff, Tomasi, or one of them can handle it. (Not Morrison, no offense but dn’t think he’s the right guy for the job on this one.)

============
I thought that was Anthro, not Kamandi.
May 28th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Kamandi???? WTF???? Were did you come up with that idea??? That’s Anthro as an old guy. We even see Kamandi on his own planet a page or two prior to the Batman/Bruce revolation.
May 28th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
I don’t understand why they didn’t just use the Superman/Batman title to tell this story.
May 28th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
so does this mean Jason Todd and Prime would then be World’s Crabbiest? Whiny-est? Angst-est? um…I running out of puns…someone help this brother out? Pweeease? =)
May 30th, 2009 at 1:33 am
So basically, new World’s Finest is Dick and Mon-el… crap! Doesn’t seem to work for me. If they made it like Dick and Kara, it may be better seeing as they’re considered the 1st son/daughter
