Hey everybody, it’s a big week for me for a number of reasons, mainly Power Girl #1 hits the stores today as well as JONAH HEX #43.
Please give these both a shot and let me know what you think. I personally thing they are both going to grab a lot of people in the right place, lol.
WOLVERINE REVIEW SORT OF: Gonna start out with a chat about the movie first while it is fresh in my mind. I went to see Wolverine with Brandon Peterson today. We had the whole theater to ourselves except for two couples that had some weird need to sit exactly behind us. This is a 1,000 seat theater. What the hell is wrong with people? I really hate that. I wanted to get up and toss my drink on them, but alas, I was thirsty and tired. Next time, bitches.
Anyway… to the movie… I did not like it. The actors were fine… it was the script that gave me a stomach ache. Some spoiler’s here if you didn’t see it.
Besides every cliché in the book used in the dialogue and set up of scenes, so much of this didn’t make any sense to me…I am talking about the horrible storytelling and the idea that if anyone with a brain sat down and looked at the overall story, they would right away see there are 1,000 problems with this movie. Some examples you say? OK… here we go: Adamantium bullets… this just made me laugh. “It won’t kill him, but it will erase his memory.” Give me a friggin’ break here… all that equipment and science and they got to put a bullet in his head to …what? Make him forget everything so the next movie can make some sense? Storytelling cop-out there my friends. Lame.
Next, the whole plot where Stryker sends this girl to influence Wolverine to love her so she can take him back and get some adamantium skeleton … well, why didn’t she just influence him to do what she needed ASAP knowing her sister was in peril… for how long? The past six years? Why not do it on the first day? Another thing with her… Stryker forces her to seduce Logan, he kidnaps her sister FOR SIX YEARS and watches him totally screw with her world and when she finally gets him, she tells him to “take a long walk till your feet bleed, then keep walking”… Hahahahahah, is that the best they could come up with? Are you kidding? I mean… she fakes her own death so he would come and get his bones laced with admantium.
Could it get worse? Three Mile Island worse? Box the Blob to get information worse? We are trying to kill each other every scene except when we team up at the end worse? See you later and I will kill you worse? Man ass worse? Deadpool looks like Spawn worse?
Well, the answer is yes. Overall, I felt this was a chick flick with explosions. I can go on and on, but I will not. You can do that yourself. For the people that enjoyed this Fox film, I say good for you. I though, cannot shut off my brain when seeing a movie, so I am out of luck. I wish my memory of this movie were erased like Wolverine’s brain. That lucky bastard!
TRANSFORMERS 3: http://www.noob.us/miscellaneous/real-life-transformers/
SIGNINGS: Amanda Conner and I will be signing today at A COMIC SHOP in Orlando Florida. Come on by, say hello and let’s hang. Here is the info… they are a cool group and the store kicks ass. http://www.acomicshop.com. We will be there from 3-6pm.
PSYCHOTIC REACTION: This is a FANTASTIC ONE SHOT by Justin Gray, my “most of the time” writing partner, featuring art by Thornton Ebert and inks by Marc Deering. It’s professional, entertaining and really looks beautiful. You can order it online…and I highly recommend it to anyone that likes something different. What’s it about? Read on:
Michael has the best job in the world. Not only does he get paid to play video games, but he also gets to test new games before they hit the open market. When the International entertainment giant, Brain Thrust, approaches him with an offer to test a cerebral chip for transmitting data directly into the human brain that enables a person to play video games in which they smell, taste and perhaps even feel things, it is an offer he can’t refuse. But when the line between reality and the game begin to blur and people start dying, Michael finds himself at the center of a terrifying conspiracy.
Give it a shot, support indyplanet and have a great time. There are preview pages on the page as well.
THE DO NOT SKETCH LIST. Yeah, I’m going to get a bunch of artist together and form an official list of people who from now on don’t get sketches from their favorite artists. Want to know how to get on the list? Go complain on the Internet how you waited in line for 2 hours and because an artist that stayed EXTRA 2 hours to try to do more FREE sketches for the people on line didn’t get to yours. Also complain how this artist “owed you” this free sketch and you feel let down and am pissed at him or her or even the storeowner. That’s right, complain that a dude with some art skill takes a day off to lose income and try to please the fans has to take shit from someone like this. Honestly, what other field do you get this kind of crap?
So… you go on Free Comic Book Day, get a ton of free comics and free autographs and get on line to maybe get a sketch and when the poor bastard drawing all day doesn’t get to you, you make a federal case about it. Well, guess what? We are a small community and are making lists and sharing them… on the Internet. We have pictures of you and will post them and a red flag will pop up and we will never draw for you… and what can you do? Well… you can apologize for being an ass, and do community time and show proof, and then we will review your case and all your Internet posts and decide by a panel of my peers if you can be removed from the list. With this, we will also examine if you understand the words “adult,” “empathy,” and “ respect,” then we will make a final decision.
Oh, and for all the cool and sweet fans out there we all love so much, we will continue to work extra hard for you day in and day out on your books and try our best to keep you happy.
SWINE FLU: Catch it, take care of yourself, stay home till it passes or see a doc for some pills, wash your hands and get on with your life. Oh… and eat some bacon.
Madness: Love this site… it will make you laugh. I did for hours: http://www.noob.us/pictures/when-comic-books-were-innocent/
IKEA FEVER: Today also marks the opening of the largest Ikea in the United States in the Tampa area of Florida, and it has many crazy people very excited. How excited? Well, people are lined up days before to be the first ones in to get a … wait for it… free friggin’ chair! What the hell is wrong with people? I think they should go down the line and get these Swedish meatballs and just ask them nicely to leave the country… maybe offer them a folding table to do so. Anyway, give this a read and feel good about yourself.
TWITTER: I am under jpalmiotti. It’s fun and then it’s over.
MESSAGE TO OPRAH: Can you please give a trade book of Jonah Hex or the new issue of POWER GIRL a shout out on your show so I can retire and write only weird comics with topless women and guns. Enough with selling KFC to people… help a brother out!
JONAH HEX: Megan Fox. Brolin. Malkovich. Nuff said. More on this soon. And yes, I saw the pics of Megan, she is fine like summertime.
See you next week with a bigger and better post. Really.

Megan Fox, bacon, and Powergirl. Nothing better in the world!

Megan Fox, cooking bacon for you, as Powergirl, FTW

Jimmy, I picked up Power Girl, read it, read it again. LOVED it! Looking forward to the first arch and even more to what’s in store afterwards
p.s. I Love Jonah Hex but have been doing the trades on that since the first trade came out.

Good stuff. Totally agree about the movie and mentioned some of the same problems in my review.
May 6th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
“We had the whole theater to ourselves except for two couples that had some weird need to sit exactly behind us. This is a 1,000 seat theater.”
I stopped reading the article after this nasty, vicious, loaded statement.

Okay, the Megan Fox pic was hot. Now that that is out of the way I have to agree with your view of Wolverine. I can’t believe they’ve announced Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool for a Deadpool movie when they’ve totally screwed the character in this movie because correct me if I’m wrong here Jimmy, but wouldn’t the Merc with the mouth need a mouth to make the smart ass comments. I won’t even start on the swords out of the back of the wrists that are longer than his arms. I really wanted to like this movie because the actors were good but it was the story that killed it for me. If there is a celluloid god the X-men movies are done and over with at least for a while.

“Power Girl!! HELL YEAH!!”
I. LOVE. IT.
‘m reading it again. Enjoyed it the first time ’round…so much so that it bumped what would have been my first read of the week…JONAH HEX.

RE: Wolverine Review
Maybe I missed something, but I thought Kayla was with Jimmy Logan for six years and her sister was kidnapped near the end of that. Or, in other words: Stryker found out Jim had a lady and exploited their relationship. Also, it’s hinted that her powers don’t work on Jim, because it’s shown that they don’t work on Victor.
Note: I’m not defending this movie.
May 6th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
I really enjoyed the first issue of PG. And I just realized that it’s not the first book you and Justin have written that takes place in the New York City of DCU. So what are the chances of Alice, Tilt & the Monolith showing up?
May 6th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
Free sketches? Quit complaining if somebody doesn’t give you a free sketch people! One of my best Pittsburgh Comicon experiences was standing around shooting the bull with George Perez as he was doing sketches for the fans. I was amazed there was no line for him, and I was so happy after I got him to sign an Avengers book I just hung around. It was an amazing experience, and that man can talk your ear off. If you ever get the chance, just hang out and chat with him, you won’t regret it.

jimmy:
do the creators also keep a list of those that smell really, really bad at the conventions? cause there should be a sniff panel or something prior to entry into the cons that have poor air circulation.
PG #1 was excellent BTW

Jimmy,
Bought Power Girl today, read it, loved it, and more importantly my WIFE loved it too!!!! She is excited to see so many female characters getting their own series now, and seeing them treated like heroes instead of second fiddle characters that can’t quite compete with the guys (I have to concur with her……not just because she can with hold sex). It is refreshing, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!!!
I wish I could make a list in my profession (teacher). It can be just as aggravating…..hey we can have a contest to see who wins
It’s funny, but that whole issue with Wolverine’s girl not making him just volunteer for the adamantium experiment right away did not even occur to me. Now I feel stupid that I did not think of that as well. Wow, that’s just crazy stupid and a good point.
Looking forward to meeting you at Tate’s Comics next week!!
May 6th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
Jimmy,
Man, you’re exactly right about the Wolvy movie. I really really WANTED to like it. I mean–It’s Wolverine, right? I had to apologize to my wife halfway through the movie for making snotty comments about how bad it was…especially since it was ME that wanted to go to it.
Why can’t Hollywood EVER learn?
May 7th, 2009 at 12:11 am
Truth be told, Wolverine is simply too much SH*T for a film that made $ 80 Million.
May 7th, 2009 at 2:00 am
Yeah, it’s absurd how some fans feel entitled to other people’s time. Same with actors. I try to keep my head over such things, as they’re people, and don’t feel I’ve ever been a jerk to any creators taking time to meet their fans.
I wish I could remember more, but Megan Fox melted my brain.
Cheers.
May 7th, 2009 at 3:33 am
You nailed this one,my friend I don’t know how many times you and your fellow artist have stayed late after conventions ,been interupted from your conversations with collages, lunch etc by fans. Then been gracious enough to sign articles, for fans on peril of missing your connections, then have said fan turn around and tell another fan that “they were a real A-hole”. When the the fans that missed you would appreace anything you did. Gentlemen and Ladies “Start your lists NOW!!!!!”
May 7th, 2009 at 6:35 am
Jimmy…you and Brandon must have got THE best seats in the house? Middle, center…and those other two smucks must have wanted to be there…or else they realized who you two were and wanted to share your aura?
Chad…I agree! When I went to NYCC, George came out from behind his table to put his arm around me for a pic…just like Jimmy! Two pros who LOVE seeing and talking to their fans. Wish everyone were like you two Jimmy.
May 7th, 2009 at 7:24 am
I had a feeling Wolverine would suck since its done by FOX. JP proved my hypothesis. Jonah Rex rocks.
May 7th, 2009 at 8:36 am
“Well, people are lined up days before to be the first ones in to get a … wait for it… free friggin’ chair! ”
Hell, at least when they opened the one on Long Island, the first person in got like $5,000 worth of stuff, so that was at least worth waiting four days for.
I think we’re line-crazy now in America. Have you seen the commercial about guys camped out to get the new breakfast cereal, only to realize it’s a 24-hour store?
May 7th, 2009 at 9:21 am
Hey, Jimmy:
Finally just five minutes ago got finished reading PG1, and I LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! It’s so refreshing to see a super-hero comic that’s FUN again.
One small, comic-book nerd continuity nitpick, though:
I thought PG’s cat was the mangy yellow critter from her JLE days. Is that not the case?
May 7th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
“Man ass worse?” Oh no! You mean they left it out? Been looking forward to seeing that. I’m told it’s pretty hot.
May 7th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
vinnie, no one likes lines less than me. if i see any sort of line for anything, i leave. As far as ikea lines, lol…please. they should get in line to take my money.
as far as the fans, you all that have met me, i dont think i can be nicer…and genuine to you guys, but if you act like an asshole, well, i will give it back to you in spades.
I love the fans and totally respect them because i myself am a fan. its that simple.
I believe in manners.
May 7th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Last line I was in was at Wal-mart last year on my first Black Friday. (Wanted to see what the big deal was about and get a flatscreen in the process). I thought it would be orderly since cops were there. Bwahahaha! When the doors opened…Well, think Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead. Even little old ladies were monsters. Never again (even tho I got that cool Sony flatscreen and broke out).
May 7th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Hey Jimmy,
You and Amanda did good on PowerGirl, guess it wouldn’t be a PG comics without at least one joke about her ‘globes’… groan.
Also love Gulacy’s silent pages on Jonah Hex. It was a good week in comics! BTW – did you see the hardcover reprint of Blazing Combat? Unbelievable great artwork and stories by Archie Goodwin. Here’s a sneak peak, but it’s out this week, and really, solid storytelling.

Megan Fox? Power Girl? Bacon?
W I N sir, Win.
May 8th, 2009 at 6:50 am
the first thing i picked up at the store was the blazing combat hardcover book and its amazing from cover to cover. any fan of great storytelling and art , well…its a must have for sure. featuring all stories by the Comic book legend Archie Goodwin.
go that and the walking dead collection.
May 14th, 2009 at 10:53 am
yep they messed up big time on the wolverine movie alot of things i see in the movie that makes me go wtf, like with Gambit they had everything right with him expect his very thick, Cajun accent.
I agree with the sketchs i have not been to a Con yet but i know how to respect others. If they don’t want to do a sketch at that Con then people need to smile say thank you and move on, maybe next time around online or at a Con that same person might do sketchs and if he sees your face he will remember and go oh this person was so nice to me at th last con.
thats my two beans.
