What the Chuck? NBC holds off on decision

May 4th, 2009
Author David Pepose

Despite NBC having announced most of their shows next season, genre sleeper hit Chuck is still on the bubble, as they say, until May 19th.

Michael Ausiello over at Entertainment Weekly says that the slacker spy, along with Law & Order, Medium, Life, and My Name is Earl are still being decided by NBC execs. Law & Order and Medium seem to be about negotiating how many episodes, but people really want to know what the Chuck is up with Chuck.

If the show does meet an untimely demise, it could possibly follow in the footsteps of Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller, who is moving his cancelled series to DC Comics. Chuck previously has roots with the Warner Bros.-owned publisher, having had a six-issue miniseries published last year by Wildstorm.

  1. The Ugly American Says:

    Journeyman journeyed, man
    Pushing Daisies is pushing daisies.
    Terminator is getting terminated.
    Reaper is getting reaped.
    Chuck is getting chucked.

Next time, try not naming your show after a reference to the end.

  2. Zam Says:

Comic book would be terrible… the show’s strength is its actors…

  3. Russ Burlingame Says:

I’m really going to be upset if CHUCK gets pitched–but more than that, I’m shocked to hear MY NAME IS EARL is even on this list.

Get a clue NBC. Seriously. If they milk this CHUCK thing out until 5/19 and it doesn’t get renewed… well, I don’t even need to tell you the poop storm that’s already brewing and heading for the peacocks bright fan tail. NBC is well aware of the various fan campaigns going on right now. There’s a lot of angry tech savvy nerds out here. It would be very very wise of NBC to give them a “yes or no” or even an official “wait” (which would be courteous) instead of waiting and hoping the “buzz” dies down.

  5. Craig Says:

EW is also reporting sources saying the show looks to be safe, so it’s probably NBC just milking all the free publicity the show is getting for another couple of weeks. Which I’m fine with. It’s a great show and deserves a wider audience. They’re also reporting it would probably be moved to another night, which is great because it’s in a brutal time slot.

  6. Sector 2814 Says:

canceling chuck is pretty much the worst idea ever.

  7. Jeff Says:

NBC… heres you’re chance.. we are tireod of the old SNL format for the last 34 years, no need to drag that out to Thursdays also…

Keep Life, Chuck, Medium.. cast off the Law & Order(s).. there are so many Law & Orders that I stopped watching them years ago.

Chuck is fresh, and I support their advertsers too!

  8. Timothy Says:

Some days the NBC executives get up and go to work and have tough decisions to make. Like should they have coffee or tea. Should they sharpen their pencil or just the pen. But the easiest day for one these guys is the day he/she wake up and go to work and green light Chuck for its third season. And you know, the person that has that job should get a raise for making the smartest decision in NBC history. Good Job!

  9. Donomiser Says:

Chuck is the only show on Mondays that is awesome to watch. It has great energy within the actors..
It is one of several shows I watch on NBC .. but if Chuck goes.. I’ll block NBC from my fav’s..

  10. Gabe Says:

Please don’t cancel Chuck! Noooo! It’s so funny–especially now that he has kung-fu!

  11. JDuke Says:

I watch only three shows on NBC. Life, Chuck, and Southland.

NBC apparentlly has decided to cancel Life. If NBC were to cancel Chuck then they have cut my veiwership by two thirds. I thought the idea was to grow a veiwer base not reduce it.

After reviewing NBC’s fall lineup I can’t really say I will be watching anything on NBC but Southland. More of the same unimaginative reality shows, over blow drama’s, mind numbing self absorbed singles trying find Mr./Mrs right. Jimmy Fallon and Amy Poehler, please, give me a break. Saturday Live hasnt been worth watching for decades and these two are part of the reason. Worst yet we are offered a show “Meteor” in which the whole world is in peril.

Let me ask you question NBC. With all that we have going in the would right now, war, the economy, politial strife. Do you really want me to watch and show where the earth is doomed. I want to escape the pressures work and life and just relax for an hour or two.

Chuck has been good from the start and has been getting even better as it has moved forward, it would be ashamed to loose such a good show. I enjoy watching Chuck and look forward to the following week to see what’s going happen next. The show puts a smile on my face. NBC you dont want me lose my smile do you.
