Can I get a big bad hell yeah? It’s been rumored for months, but tonight on Marvel.com, they finally confirmed it: Marvel vs. Capcom 2, quite possibly the best 2D fighting game ever, is coming to LIVE and PSN. I can’t wait to own this for a third and possibly fourth platform (already have it for Dreamcast and PS2), and for any who missed out on the notoriously hard-to-find home editions of the game, this’ll be a great chance to have a ton of fun with over 50 awesome characters. Online multiplayer is confirmed (some may say obviously), and Marvel’s got a trailer to remind everyone of the awesomeness. No word yet on the release date, but they do say this year.
Update: PSN will have the exclusive demo this Thursday, according to the Playstation Blog. More info at that link about which characters/features are in the demo. (Thanks for the tip, FunkDoctor!)

BTW, a demo will be up on PSN for this on Thursday.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been waiting years to re-buy this again! I was an idiot and sold my copy a long time ago (I had it on Dreamcast and then on PS2) for dirt-cheap and then when I went to re-buy it, it was a bazillion dollars everywhere. I can’t wait!!!

Ok, but couldn’t they update the costumes? I doubt it would have been tough to change a few pixels around so Cyclopes doesn’t look like Jim Lee is drawing him.
April 28th, 2009 at 8:59 am
will the demo be free on PSN?
April 28th, 2009 at 9:16 am

I have always loved that game and I’m so excited to see it re-released for DL!!! I do kind of wish that they did an HD remix like they did for Street Fighter 2…
April 28th, 2009 at 10:37 am

Wait . . . Are Wolverine and Ryu in this? And it’ll suck if there is a time limit on choosing your character.
April 28th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
Aww shit. For some reason, I thought this was a new game, not one that had come out ALMOST A DECADE AGO.
It was a fun game when it first came out, and I do have fond memories, but uhmmm…. Can we get something new please? Can’t believe we’re talking about this, in lieu of SF4.
“Move along citizen, nothing to see here….”
April 28th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
People….this is an old game, came out in ‘99, you do not touch re-releases when they come out for downloads, this came out long before MK vs DC (seriously on that one, little late to the party arent we?) and you dont update their costumes, these characters are stuck in the 90’s, deal.
where have you people been?
April 28th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Zinjak, you obviously never played the game or attempted to, as it’s nigh impossible to score a copy without paying over $70. That’s why they are re-releasing it. It was barely released in the first place.
April 29th, 2009 at 6:36 am
Yeah, I don’t think it is the greatest 2D fighting games of all times - that honor probably should go to some version of the SNK/Playmore’s King of Fighters series - but it is a great fighting game nonetheless. And it is huge among people on emulators, and some even include online multiplayer support. But it is good to see it being released again for newer consoles…
