Is Charlie Hunnam the God of Thunder?

Some pretty cool news from IGN:

Apparently Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam has made it far enough in the lengthy casting crucible to have gotten a screen test to play Thor, the awesome Asgardian, in Marvel’s upcoming 2011 film. A highlight:

Hunnam confirmed that he has indeed screen-tested for the role of the god of thunder. He has only shot one screen test so far, and when asked if it involved running around with a helmet and a hammer, he replied with a smile, “Something like that.”

I’m looking at this guy, and I think Hunnam at the very least looks the part for the Kenneth Branagh-directed film, as well as the following Avengers film. (And credits like Children of Men and Cold Mountain certainly are nothing to sneeze at, either.) What say you, Rama readers?

Sons of Anarchy is a fantastic show. Hunnam is very intense in his role. Plus he’s English, so that might help in playing Thor.

He was great in “Undeclared” and “Nicholas Nickelby.” He never struck me as being a very big guy, but otherwise he’s perfect.

I think it’s a great choice. *stamp of approval*

looks like Thor…maybe works for the movie.

  5. Brian Knippenberg Says:

I dug him in “Green Street Hooligans.”

Charlie Hunnam is bloody terrific. Hopefully nobody in Marvel considers his graphic gay sex scenes in Queer as Folk a disadvantage to him acquiring the role…

He was always my first choice, and there’s no problem him being a little short. FX can cure that.
He kicks a lot of ass in SOA and Green Street Hooligans. He’s perfect.
I’m not sure if i’ve seen the Skarsgard son in anything violent.

  8. Daniel Says:

He’s got the look and acting chops, now he needs to start working out. Thor is a god after all. :)

I can see it, and he isn’t even in costume. I wonder if they’ll go with the man-of-the-people Norse god from Ultimates, or more traditional. I like both.
