DC lights up Inferno with J.G. Jones and Jesus Saiz

April 21st, 2009
Author David Pepose

DC has been on fire with their latest post on their blog, the Source:

That’s right. The Archie Comics superhero, Inferno, designed by J.G. Jones. Wait — you still want more? Click here to see a cover of the hero by Jesus Saiz.

The original Inferno, created by Archie Comics in 1941, was a circus fire-eater whose breath became hot enough to melt bullets in their tracks. There’s no word yet on how the new-and-improved Inferno will evolve from there.

Inferno will share the spotlight with the Shield, the Web, and Hangman in a four-issue Red Circle miniseries by J. Michael Straczynski scheduled for later this summer.

Ok. I’ll be the one to say it.

The Inferno looks like a real flamer.

  3. Robb Irrgang Says:

…I’m confused why he grows a handlebar and goes bald when he’s on fire…

Is it just ME… or does Inferno have a striking resemblance to Dan Didio?

  5. karl Says:

    looks good, JMS! awesome

  6. akwasi Says:

    lol Dan didio! youre right!

  7. Vinnie Bartilucci Says:

Plus apparently his suede jacket vanishes and his belt changes color.

Wow, Doc Martins, t-shirt, jeans this should make all the negative fanboys who didn’t like the Shields costume ecstatic with what was done here.
I was going to ask who if Inferno but looked him up. Inferno the Flame breather was a circus fire eater that started fighting crime. His original costume was red with a bit of yellow and looked good. I’ll take a look at this book but won’t add it to my pull list until after I’ve see it. The whole no costume thing is a big let down.
I’ll ream Vertigos and some of the Indies if I’m looking for non costumed comics.

and by “this summer” does JMS mean one issue in early July, another 7 weeks later by the end of August, issue 3 by christmas, and no issue 4 ever?

  10. bSmithy Says:

wishing the Black Hood would be in there, hoping this will be a great revamp of Red Circle Stuff

I’ve had this type of guy pick me up at bars. Ugh… so not good. He looks like a guido.

As far as resemblance re: Didio, that would take a few less cheeseburgers and a few more sit ups and push ups on Dan’s part.

  12. Vinnie Bartilucci Says:

While I have great faith in JMS (been a fan since Real Ghostbusters and “Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future”), I gotta say I would rather have seen the Impact characters get another try. There was a LOT of promise in that line, and marketing just gave up on it before it got out of the gate.

Where the f*** is the Twelve? I loved that series, and feel absolutely betrayed that he’s started work on something – that is in the scheme of things – so similar.

Also, DC here’s a suggestion, pump all your energy into getting your main universe back on track before delving into nostalgia for characters of other companies…JMS retooling JLA would be time better spent.

  15. JM Says:

Huh? What? Am I not getting something here? Why does he go from Average Caucasian Male to Castro Muscle Daddy? The mustache, the chain, the wristband…I can practically hear Cher playing in the background. I get the fact that his overall look changes but why would it go to a distracting comical Mr. Clean Biker look?

  16. mbrady Says:

He’s the angry techno viking from that viral video.

  17. AYRES Says:

Yeah I’m not getting the idea behind 2 different designs as well is this supposed to be a legacy power thing or just a differnt design for the same character and tossed the casual look and go with the “BAdass” blue collar worker look???

  18. captainzero Says:

Well, this look certainly isn’t your regular “super-hero costume” look… but I’m more than willing to go with it.

Maybe there’s a reason JMS didn’t come out with The Shield, The Black Hood, and The Fly instead of these four.

I’m hoping “all will be well” with the series… and we’ll see the other “DAREDEVILS OF THE RED CIRCLE” come out swinging in this revival of the MLJ Heroes!!

I’m along for the ride… but I sure wanted to see The Black Hood, The Fly, Steel Sterling, Mr. Justice, The Wizard, and a couple others burst onto the scene.

I’m going to give JMS and DC a chance on this one.!!

I’m “in”.!! And waiting to see what they will do.

Now where are those pictures of the “new” Hangman and The Web????

Given what happened with Squadron Supreme it’s really not much of a big surprise that the Twelve ain’t finished. And actually, I don’t think it’s gonna be finished at all.

I mean I think JMS is a pretty good writer, but it’s a pretty bad thing that he keeps pulling this crap. How hard is it to wrap up a story?

Providing some insight to already-published books and maybe a hint at what’s to come, along with some of the sensibility and personality of the creators behind the books. If you pay attention, you’d find that Erik’s passionate about his creation; Todd Dezago is really accessible to fans and aspiring creators; Dan Jurgens is a consummate professional who understands corporate comics better than anyone I know. Those personality tics are part of what makes them interesting to talk to month after month, even when the books they’re commenting on are sometimes in an “action phase” and there’s not a lot of plot to dissect
