The Kamandi does bring me back to thoe original Terry and The Pirates -Prince Valiant- Tarzan style strips. This is really well thought out. Now hopefully Moms won’t line the kitchen full with it after mopping like they didn with the Sunday papers in the 50′s.

…I was thinking more Alex Raymond’s Flash Gordon strips myself. And while I really have never cared one iota for Allred’s stiffer-than-John Fortesque style, it’s obvious here he’s at least *trying* to channel Ramona Fradon’s classic work on the original Metamorpho book from the 60′s.

This experiment may actually be worth buying, kids.

I’m with everyone else. This is like a dream come true.

The last panel with Kamandi crediting Jack Kirby and published by Detective Comics. How cool is that ? Great touches.

Allred & Metamorpho – Another phenomenal hit.

Why can’t we get more dream teams on stuff like this ? If we could get this caliber of quality all the time I’d be buying the weekly for my fix and the collected edition later too.

I’m wi’ya, Kurt. Awesome after awesome.

I’m going to keep saying it – I hope and pray DC does something bold and outlandish to get news of this series (and through that, the series itself) into the hands of the public at large. This is almost wasted on comics fandom alone. If it goes well, maybe it’ll open the door for other non-standard format fare that might be more attractive to magazine stands and bookstores.

I can’t comment on Gibbons writing as it is just one page and seems introductory more than anything else

Don’t see any contradiction to Kirby in that page at all either.

Every time I ask, they say someone else has dibs. Ah well.

This looks amazing, and I’m dying to read it all. Dave and Ryan are gonna do a great job.

And I think I’m officially out of any future KAMANDI sweepstakes, because I’ve figured out a new series idea that has what I like about Kamandi without being Kamandi itself, and accordingly doesn’t come with the weight of “It ain’t like Jack, so you’re doing it wrong” that any Kamandi project has to contend with. [Plus, of course, if it's my own project, no one can tell me someone else has dibs!]

But wow — everything I see from WEDNESDAY COMICS looks great. I’m honored to be included with these guys…

I am very excited by the concept and execution (thus far) of “Wednesday Comics.” It’s a brilliant idea and I hope the format catches on. It’s a great way to bring new readers into comics.

I was incredibly psyched for the Kamandi strip, but beyond Ryan Sook’s art, it looks pretty disappointing. I’m not digging Gibbon’s work here at all, and it’s been a bit since i read Kamandi, but it seems slightly contradictory to Kirby’s stories.

Mike Allred on Metamorpho is inspired as well! It’s hard to find an artist with more “funk” in him than that guy, and Metamorpho’s a funky character.

Kamandi is the absolute last character I’m interested in in the DCU. This offering, however, makes me reconsider that statement. The art looks amazing! Sook is really bringing his “A” game.
