Suh-weet!! I missed out on that DVD set that was released, and quickly pulled, a few years ago…

I’ve never understood why no one shows these cartoons anymore. Sure, they’re seriously dated. And they recycled the same backgrounds all the time. And Spidey never really did any web-slinging in the show aside from the webs he swung on. Hell, the animators couldn’t even bother to draw the costume webbing across his shoulders, torso, and stomach. But none of that mattered (much). The show was a lot of fun, I loved the “groovy,” (mildly) psychedelic look and feel of the show. I remember hurrying home after school in the late 70′s/early 80′s to catch it in reruns.

I like it better than any of the other Spidey shows ever to hit the tube. Yep, even better than the FOX series from the 90′s. That ’90s show (obviously) had much better production values, but it was so convoluted with too many extra characters and every storyline seemed to just drag on forever (Return of the Sinister Six: Part 57). I never did figure out what the whole Madame Web thing was all about. And Spidey talked to himself way too much.

Plus, the ’60s show simply had one of the coolest theme songs ever. In your face, Spectacular Spider-Man!
