if they shrink WW down to 10×14 for reprint, every copy will need to come with a magnifying glass. there are about 50 panels per page!

Between this and the back up stories I’m way more excited about going back to the comic shop.

I’m expecting low grade paper. $3.99 – I don’t think they’ll launch it as the most expensive thing on the racks. This is part of the rate hike compromise.

Will the extra effort be worth your extra buck. If the content is awesome and diverse as the format I’m in for the long haul.

People will not buy at $7. Not a weekly book. That’s too much of an investment.

Assuming the page size is actually four comic book pages, we’re looking at the size of the New York Times. Which publishes far more than 16 pages, daily, at well under $7. Yes, on newsprint, but still.

As for the trade, they’ll shrink the pages if they need to, but this will come out in trade. They’re not going to squander a Neil Gaiman story in a never-reprinted weekly.

If I were guessing on page size, I’d guess we’re dealing with 14×10 or so – the same size as the Paul Dini/Alex Ross oversizeds.

The price of something is the last thing you want to tell a potential buyer…. if it is infact more expensive than you are anticipating (sp?) All good sales people try and talk up the product first.. it has this or .. it does this.. You have to talk it up so it gets seems more enticing than it is (hell, even watch an infomercial). And that is what DC is doing… talking it up. These Characters … these creaters… this size… this preview. I think they’ll either tell us just before the online ‘previews’ comes out, or if it’s that bad, not give an announcement (sorry I cant spell today!!haha…)
That being said – I do want to know the price too!!

I’m expecting $6.99
I think that should be a reasonable price point for what I believe they will be delivering in terms of content.
As far as waiting for the trade — I wouldn’t be holding my breath on that one.

$6 or $7 is so expensive as to be sales-killing. That it’s foldable suggests a lower quality paper stock anyway. To my mind the biggest issue is ads – can they even be run in this? If not, that’s a heavy offset in cost.

But at $6 or $7 – $72-84 for the series – it’s a complete killer. Especially since a 200 page book printed at those sizes isn’t going to run that much, and so people will quite deliberately wait for the trade.

I’ve got a 32 page Little Nemo book from Dover printed on nicer paper than I’d expect Wednesday Comics to be printed on, with a sturdy cover, that sold for $15. I see no reason $5 for a book half as long and on cheaper paper isn’t an upper bound for the price.

I LOVE this whole idea. It’s the comic book equivilant of a “Crazy Ivan,” i.e. the comic book telling the computer screen, “Here’s something you can’t do.”

I love the fact that every time something about the book is posted, someone asks about the elephant in the room, how much is it going to cost, a conspicuous absence in any of the publicity.

There should be a betting pool. I can tell you, if it was $1 or $2, DC would lead with that. Given 16 pages an issue, each 4x the size of a regular page, so effectively 64 pages an issue, I’d guess $5.99 or $6.99 as a likely price. Maybe less if they think the good publicity it worth subsidizing it, but $4.99 at a minimum

I can’t wait to see how this turns out. I think if they do it right, it could really play to the people who read webcomics as they usually get just a page of the story at a time on a weekly or few-times-weekly basis.
