Okay, Geoff said he and Francis were working on a book together (or maybe it was vice versa). Geoff has stated many times he’s wanted to work with Dick Grayson. Didio put Nightwing and Flamebird back into Superman mythology. Grayson had to become either Batman or Red Robin. Geoff loves the Kingdom Come storyline with Dick as Red Robin.

I think Hush will become Batman, Dick will become Red Robin, Damian will be Robin, and Tim Drake will be the new Alfred. And Jason will become the new Hush. I, however, will stay the exact same as I was before R.I.P. and Final Crisis and not read any Batman books.

  2. Jacob Says:

He’s on Adventure Comics, I thought?

I wouldn’t complain, mind you, if he was on Red Robin.

  3. Josh Says:

In an interview on IGN Mike Marts said there’s a Red Robin series written by Chris Yost and drawn by Ramon Bachs (spelling?) so this is probably a cover. Still cool.

  4. Max Glay Says:

    It’s one crappy costume.

  5. NeoApocalypse Says:

I feel that it feels strange that DC’s bending so far backwards to make the main DC Universe more closely resemble Kingdom Come when they don’t even release Elseworlds any more. That’s besides the point that after some event a couple years from now, they’ll undo it all.
I was never a fond of the Red Robin costume/identity either. It’s so obviously a half Robin/half Batman costume, just seemed lacking in originality. That, and there’s a chain of family restaurants with the same name.

    Great Doc Midnight.

  7. Patrick Says:

I’m not feeling it. I like Didio and whatever he’s doing with DC less and less.

  8. Lemurion Says:

I don’t mind the Red Robin identity – with the number of ‘Robins’ in the DCU it makes a great next step for a character to take. However, it has to be a ‘next step’ for it to work. Tim would work well as a Red Robin, as would Jason because neither has ever had a real ‘post-Robin’ identity. Jason was the Red Hood for a while, but not long enough.

For Dick though, it would be a real step back that I don’t think could be justified. The only valid choices I can see for him are Nightwing and Batman; Nightwing because that’s the role he wants, and Batman because that’s the role he has to take.

I’m interested in the possibilities – June can’t come fast enough.

  9. Mark Andrew Smith Says:

I love it as a costume and it would be great if it took over for the regular Robin. It’s streamline and cool looking. Great job DC and all those involved. It would be great as an upgrade that became cannon.

  10. Shaun Says:

Aside from what I saw in Kingdom Come (and I agree with NeoApocalypse that I think it’s odd to see KC becoming so integrated into the DCU proper), can anyone fill me in on the Red Robin concept/origin? Considering that I chose to stay far, far away from RIP/Final Crisis and all that it’s possible that I won’t really “get it,” but I am curious.

I’m also with both ChrisB and Patrick in that I seriously doubt any of this is going to bring me back to the Bat-books anytime soon. That’s such a shame, personally, considering it was Batman Begins that got me interested in reading comics again anyhow. DC’s current regime has made some interesting (or, IMO, *lousy*)choices on how to capitalize on the revival of Batman on the silver screen. Very different from how they handled things in 1989.

  11. Callum Says:

I’mnot that excited about the Red Robin persona being taken up. but i am curious to see exactly how it all turns out at the end of battle for the cowl.

The way i see it, there will be two batmen. One in the Batman comic and one in Batman and Robin. The one from Batman likely being Tim Drake, while the one in Batman and Robin being Dick Grayson with Damien as his Robin. with Jason Todd being the red robin. Alternatively, Jason would be the Batman with Damien (both being more hardened and lethal characters) with Nightwing being Red Robin (out of sheer predictability about this absurd need to ruin Kingdom Come)

  12. chrisb Says:

Just saw the ign video. Wow, I was waaaay off. Might have to give Morrison/Quietly’s B&R a shot. Hopefully it won’t go as crazy with regular continuity as their X-Men.

  13. veryvery Says:

is he just doing the covers?? since he’s on adv. comics???

i think it’s obvious that because of the birds of prey-like logo, that must be barbara gordon.

hahaha, i’m amazed by the pre-hate! i think the design looks cool!!

  14. SageShini Says:

What’s to discuss. Its a cover. Beautiful one though.

Also. No matter how you felt about RIP or Battle for the Cowl, the books in June sound awesome and to the people that won’t be reading…I’m sorry but you’ll just be missing out on awesome comics.

There’s something for everyone with the Bat-Titles launching then. Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly will be working together on one title (so if you liked his work you get to come back for this title), Paul Dini will be on TWO titles and probably doing his done-in-one approach again (that covers the other half of the people reading the Bat-books before RIP), Greg Rucka and JH Williams are doing Batwoman over on Detective Comics (the only people that aren’t excited about this have got to be the ones that are still mad about Batman not being in ‘Tec).

The only thing that remains to be seen is who’s on the Batgirl mini, and if Chris Yost is capable of writing Red Robin. (Tim Drake, basically.)

  15. Shaun Says:

@ SageShini: Thanks for the Red Robin info!

As for me “missing out on awesome comics” that’s a chance I’m perfectly willing to take. Morrison’s run on Batman left me cold and incredibly disappointed given how much I’d enjoyed other works of his.

I’m very happy that I skipped RIP and Final Crisis, two stories that I’m certain will not have any lasting effects on the DCU. If they do have a lasting impact, well, then the DCU is no longer the place for me. Unfortunate, given how long I’ve been a fan, but oh well. I honestly don’t mind saving the money, given comic prices now, and passing on stories that I don’t enjoy.

Given my disappointment in Morrison writing Batman (and how ugly I find Quitely’s art) I’ll be passing on the B&R title. I like Dini and Rucka both, BTW, but yes… Not having Batman in ‘Tec sucks. Not having Bruce as Batman sucks. And Dan Didio and the current direction of the DCU? Well, you can guess my opinion that one too.

  16. Shaun Says:

I forgot to mention… Jason Todd back from the dead? Yeah, sucks. I was hoping he might die – for good – in Battle For the Cowl.

Let me add one positive note though. Marapul’s Red Robin up above? AWESOME work.

  17. Kilian Says:

wicked idea, but I can only hope the costume has long sleeves, the whole Abam west-era Robin-hood t-shirt look was silly, not to mention every villain is going to be shouting “gee-willickers” if they see it. Plus, it reminds me of Blue Falcon. cool idea all the same. kind of makes me want to see Superman in a cowl.

  18. theDetective Says:

My opinion after reading the June solicitations will be as follow:
    Batman = Dick Grayson
    Robin = Damien
Red Robin = Tim Drake (due to Red Robin looking for Bruce and Tim being the replacement Detective of the bunch)

    Thoughts?
