Sci Fi Wire has posted an interesting tidbit — rumor has it that Terminator Salvation and Star Trek (and Charlie Bartlett) cast member Anton Yelchin might be playing the role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming Marc Guggenheim-penned Green Lantern film.
Even more interesting are the names that have allegedly been passed up: Sam Worthington, Emile Hirsch (yes, he was Speed Racer), and Ryan Gosling apparently all turned down the part due to scheduling…

A 19 YEAR OLD!? To play test pilot Hal Jordan? Seriously?

These casting rumors are typically garbage anyway, and this one seems even more unbelievable than usual. The kid looks barely old enough to shave, much less believably play Hal Jordan. Methinks someone’s agent is working the ol’ spin machine.

Yelchin is WAY too charismatic to play Hal.

You know, I still think that Gregory Smith is a possibility. The guy’s 26 now and has a substantial work history with Berlanti (and some with Guggenheim). David wondered about this a while back: http://blog.newsarama.com/2008/12/01/is-gregory-smith-a-contender-for-green-lantern/

I’m okay with the age issues coming up for the character, but going off the best GL work, the Hal character has to be the guy in the pilots bar singing “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” to get the hottie. Not to say I’m casting Tom Cruise (I would’ve 15 years ago, honestly), but Hal’s gotta be a stud.

I know eventually I’ll become older than the heroes I read about, but at only 22 years old I’d feel weird watching a 19 year old play Hal Jordan. I’d be looking to cast someone in his late 20′s or early 30′s personally.

I know people say “Oh, he’s too old” but honestly, I see Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan. I don’t care that he’s 37 or whatever he is… He looks the part, he’s the gravitas the role requires, and he’d be great. Oh, and he’s not that much older than Christian Bale is. I still say Fillion’s the guy, or at least should be the guy.
I don’t know if this Yelchin rumor has any truth to it or not, but what is with this idea of casting essentially kids to play these iconic roles? Cast Yelchin, or someone like him, and this will be one of those great film ideas that end up never realizing it’s potential.

too young…give to David Boreanaz and let’s move on.

I wouldn’t even say that this guy is a good choice for Kyle Rayner, let alone Hal Jordan.
BEN BROWDER from Farscape is the ONLY choice if you ask me.

Is the GL movie for sure about Hal? I don’t know this actor but I could see him playing GL if he was Kyle Rayner? But I agree, he seems too young for either GL’s…

He’s probably going to play hall in a flashback scene… like “Teenage Hal” in high school… just like what his name played Clark Kent but his voice was dubbed by Christopher Reeve.

Sorry, I meant Hall, not Hall, duh.

I swear I’m not putting in two L’s… it’s happening automatically. Anyway, I’m sure that’s what it is. Teenage HAL.

Yeah, I hope this isn’t true at all. That guy doesn’t look right at all. Give me Tanmoh Penikett for this roll here. He is a smooth talker and a bit funny too.

He’s too young!

Would be better suited to “Cheeks” in an Ambush Bug movie.

Actually, yes, I could see Boreanz as Hal Jordan too. Either Fillion or Boreanz (even though they look nothing alike) and I’d be happy.
Go with someone who looks like he’s barely reached puberty (which was one of the biggest problems with the proposed JLA movie), I’ll pass on the live action GL and stick with the upcoming GL animated film instead. At least Hal will look like Hal in that one!

Marc, while you might be on to something, to me he doesn’t even look like a teenage Hal (nor does he look like Pavel Chekov, but that’s another argument)… Yelchin might be a perfectly nice guy, but he looks like an even younger Elijah Wood. I’m just not seeing this.
Oh hell, they’ll probably end up casting Shia LeBouf anyhow.
