Not, the problem is, as soon as they turned on the communication system back when they opened the Hall of Justice, they'd have gotten the alert signal. So they would probably have programmed the computers to ignore the signal. But that didn't happen - they got saved almost moments after they buried the communicator. Good thing they didn't say "Oh, good, I can dig up my communicator now before we leave...hey, where'd they go?)
