Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim

February 16th, 2009
Author Troy Brownfield

Blog@ Contributor (and, oh yeah, Oni Press managing editor) Randal C. Jarrell sent this along. It’s director Edgar Wright’s MySpace blog, and it’s home to the first picture of Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim.

Fun pic, but how awesome would it be if the whole thing were done while the cast were wearing giant Disney-Park-esque character heads, with expressions designed by O’Malley?  No?  Okay.  Enjoy anyway.

I keep hearing how great this series is and I am interested in seeing the movie, when it’s released. However, as great as the story might be, (and I admit this is a personal taste) I can’t get past how awful the art is.

Well, I won’t say the art is “awful” as it’s all taste and varying standards and all that, but I will say I hate the faces, and I’ve made honest attempts to read the series, but my eyes have pretty much bounced off the way people are drawn.
I like all the ideas in the book when described by others, though, and I’m looking forward to the movie.

Yeah, enough of that f*cking Japanese anime sh!t, am I right? When are those Canadians gonna learn those p!$$ drawings don’t fly in America?

Jesus man, seriously, how can you call O’Malley’s art awful? Even if you don’t like the “style of it,” it’s definitely thought out quality work, in line, expression, composition…awful, really? How exactly?

    lol
