Which is okay, because that’s why Al Gore created embedding.

The DVD and Blu-ray editions both drop on March 24th.

…What? No Bruce Timm version? :-P

  2. armando Says:

    cool.
i was hoping it would not be in Bruce Timm’s style

  3. Fletcher Says:

Not enough to go on in my opinion. However, I am glad to see that it is not in the style of the awful animated stuff that Marvel has been doing (Ultimate Avengers, Dr. Strange, Hulk vs. Wolverine) and it’s not the children’s Batman Beyond stuff either. Thank God it does not look like some Saturday Morning cartoon reject stuff. It is looking like they took some real time and effort to make this look like something that adults would want to see. I am also happy that it is not that animated comic stuff either. What a waste of time that junk is. I will be getting this on blu-ray. I wish there was something about the Hollis Mason’s Under the Hood, but this way I will be totally surprised. This is most definitely a must have.

I don’t really want to get this if it’s all going to end up on some mega-deluxe Watchmen DVD in 6 months…

  5. Panic Says:

Yes I will wait till they do a deluxe Watchmen DVD to watch this. I just want to see the Hollis Mason stuff anyway.

  6. eddy Says:

Dunno how you can wait that long to see it, ima get this the day it hits, hopefully the watchmen launch will have some kinda gimick where we can get merchandise and such.

  7. Cray_ws Says:

Bruce Timm’s style is so passé. I don’t know what to think but I echo the same sentiments that Fletcher posted. I really think CGI animation would’ve been the way to go. I guess I’ll have to see how it’s executed for further judgment.

  8. Pariscub Says:

As this version ONLY works for the US (oddly enough, the advert isn’t limited to the US), people from other countries can watch it there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zUgBK0-qbo

  9. Joe Says:

Looks great, but yeah I’ll wait for it to be included on the Watchmen DVD.

Timm is passé Cray_ws? Haha, I think you must be only person who thinks that. True, there needs to be an alternative “adult-oriented” style of comic animation, but we’s still waiting…

Anyway, ToTBF represents a comic, within Watchmen, so an animated ToTBF is rather fitting as it maintains the layer to the film created in the original comic series.

CGI is still a bit kiddy, it’s perfect for Disney/Pixar stuff but not for something like ToTBF. Not yet anyway.

  10. Ike Iszany Says:

    Looks like Marvel craptastic animation.

  11. Steve Says:

Tales isn’t a DC Universe title, so there really wasn’t any chance of it being in Timm’s animation style. And even if Timm did executive produce, his new line of Direct to DVDs is about capturing the art of the book, as New Frontier successfully did.

  12. Steven Says:

I happen to like Bruce Timm’s style, and I personally think the outcome of this would be better than something CGI. Most of the direct-to-DVD CGI that you see now adays has a very “plastic doll” look to me. The best CGI that I’ve seen was Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and we would not get quality of that, I’m sure (as the budget for that was ridiculous). Look at Resident Evil Degeneration, although I found it enjoyable, which looks pretty bland even compared to some video game CGI now adays. Personally, with the coloring and quality of animation, I’m happy with what I’m seeing so far. Plus, we are getting the Under the Hood as well so I see nothing to legitimately complain about. You know, other than the fact that this is the internet and most people seem to think that’s enough of an excuse. Are we all forgetting the amazing first three season of Batman TAS?

  13. Brian Denham Says:

This should not have been an animated movie!

It should have been a film of collected panels from a comic. The kid in the Watchmen is reading a comic.

It should look like a comic. It should look like a documentary of a comic with scans and yellow paper and word balloons and polka-dotted coloring. Maybe even with page turns and flapping paper.

The kid is not watching an animated movie like Heavy Metal. he’s reading a comic on a street corner.

It’s important to the story that it’s a comic.

  14. Greg Basore Says:

Dude get a grip. Just because it shows up on screen as a comic doesn’t make that the best way to present it in supplemental material. The idea of marketing a stand alone DVD of a still comic wouldn’t work. No one would buy it, and most people that weren’t fans of the original comic would skip it if it were a special feature on the Watchmen DVD. Warners want’s to make money here and this is the most accessible way to market the story to movie goers.

And if you can’t wrap your head around those pragmatic business concerns, there’s another way to look at it. Within the fictional world of the movie this could be the animated adaptation of the comic that the kid is reading, or what the kid imagines in his mind’s eye when he reads the comic. In fact if the rumors that this and the Under the Mask stuff will be worked into the movie on a deluxe DVD edition pan out, then I’ll betcha that we’ll see various shot of the kid sitting reading the comic and the view dissolving into the animation.

  15. Steve Says:

“It’s important to the story that it’s a comic.”
