Batman hates amateurs

Well, we all knew that Bruce Wayne hates amateurs. But who’d've thought Christian Bale would take that so seriously?

TMZ has released a profanity-laden audio file (so open here at your own risk) of the Dark Knight as he lashes out at the Terminator: Salvation set.

The reason? Cinematographer Shane Hurlbut, who apparently walked into Bale’s line of sight during a scene with costar Bryce Dallas Howard.

“Do you want me to go and trash your lights? Do you want me to go and trash them?” he shouts. In another part of the clip, he says “if you do it one more time I ain’t walkin’ on this set if you’re still hired!”

(Of course, the scene becomes almost comic when Bale shouts, “you understand, my mind is not in the scene if you’re doing that.”)

Now, here’s the interesting bits — first and foremost, this isn’t the first time someone has accused Bale of having a violent temper, as just after the premiere of the Dark Knight, he was accused of threatening his mother and sister. But the really interesting bit is why this was recorded in the first place — according to TMZ, it was to be held as a lever against Bale from the insurance company, to make sure he didn’t bail from Terminator: Salvation. Could this be a dark look at the anticipated sequel?

Y’know, I’m not going to say that Bale doesn’t sound like an ass here, because he does, but how many of us have gone off on someone and said stupid shit? I know I have, many times. I’m just lucky that no one had a recorder on at the time.

Plus, we don’t know the exact circumstances. There could be more going on here. But even if there isn’t, I’ve worked as both an actor and as technician on film sets and we get on each other’s nerves all the time. Lighting guys get pissed that actors don’t stand where they’re supposed to and actors get pissed at lighting guys because they didn’t put the light where they were standing.

Finally, God forbid anyone have a freaking temper and yell at someone. Oh, that’s just the end of the world, isn’t it? Everyone dogpiles on Bale and Russell Crowe and do you know the one thing they have in common? Passion for their work. It’s what makes them great actors.

Again, Bale went too far here and he acted like an ass, dragging it on longer than it needed to, but it’s really nothing more than that.

So, let’s take a recording completely out of context and blow it out of proportion. Anyone here witness to this? Did the guy happen to walk through once? Maybe he did it before and Bale had had enough. Maybe it had been a tough shoot with problem after problem and now some moron, that should know better, goes walking through the middle of the scene.

No, let’s not consider any of that. Instead let us just jump straight to the conclusion that Bale has anger management issues and plaster it all over the web.

TMZ, pffft, the National Enquirer of the web.

Sluggo & So What: Here you go… Harry @ AICN claims to know the full story:

Further down, in the talkback section, Harry makes a comment about what went down last summer with Bale, and his mother and sister. First I’d heard it told in that fashion. Clearly, Bale’s got a temper alright, but it’s entirely possible that the guy was under a lot of stress and snapped at a guy who’d been asking for it. The fact this the audio clip is from last summer, right around the same time as the “mother” situation, supports that theory.

But really, this is just tabloid garbage… It also begs the question, why isn’t that hack McG (what the hell kind of name is that?) taking better control of his own movie set?
