Wired’s Underwire gets specific on what we’d heard: Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter hits DVD on March 24th.
Gerard Butler narrates the pirate tale that was woven throughout the course of the main Watchmen storyline in the series.
Additionally, the disc will include a film version of “Under the Hood”, the autobiography of the originale Nite Owl, Hollis Mason.
Rumors persist that, at some point in the future, director Zach Snyder will release a DVD version that blends Black Freighter with the Watchmen film itself in an attempt to echo the reading experience.
What do you think, readers? Is this an automatic buy, or a wait-and-see?

Automatic #1 on my Netflix queue.

If this is animated and the animation is not that god awful stuff that I have seen lately (like The Ultimate Avengers movie, the Iron Man movie and the new Thor vs. Hulk) then it’s a no brainer that I would get. The animation has to be top notch and not the Saturday morning Kids WB stuff. If the animation is on par with that then I won’t be getting it now or ever. If it’s just comic book panels then, again, the art has to be top notch. I wish there was more information included in this article. Now I am going to Google this and see what else I can find out.

Is this animated, live action, or “motion comic?” If it’s animated or live action, I’m definitely putting it on Netflix. If it’s a motion comic, I’ll pass.

Automatic buy. Easily!

Day 1 buy here. Will probably regret it when it’s inevitably released as an extra on the Blu-Ray, though.
Just speculating of course.

If I read the article correctly, which I think I did, it’s going to be a motion comic. Copy and paste the URL and read for yourself. If that’s the case I don’t even think I’ll rent it. It does say though that they will be posted online. If it’s free then I will take the time to watch. Personally, I can’t stand motion comics. It’s a weak attempt at animation. To me it says “Hey we couldn’t afford animation so we will do a cheap knock off.” Just my opinion.

The Black Freighter release isn’t a motion comic, it’s an actual animated film, though I believe kind of short. Word is that eventually it will be incorporated into Watchmen for the super complete cut.
But it won’t be showing up as an extra on the regular DVD or Blu-Ray release.

the Black Freighter is the best part of Watchmen.
