Saga of the Swamp Thing hits hardcover

January 29th, 2009
Author David Pepose

Saga of the Swamp Thing will hit hardcover format on February 11, 2009, DC Comics has reported.

For those in the know, included in this edition is “The Anatomy Lesson,” where Swamp Thing learns that he far more — and far less — than the Alec Holland he once was.

Alan Moore used this story as a springboard for psychedelia, environmental issues, as well as a controversial story in which the term “treehugger” gets far more close-and-personal (and NSFW) than one typically would find.

This collection is comprised of issues #20-27, and hits stores February 11.

Why such a short solicitation period? You’d think DC would want as much time as possible to promote something like this.

I’ll be buying, but given the econemy, couldn’t we have at least a few more issues besides just 7?

It has been listed on Amazon since last September, and on Vertigo’s webiste for two months.

This was advance-solicited in the December 2008 DC Solicits: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/080915-dc-december-solicitations.html

I know, because I ordered it already!

In other words, this is basically a very slow news day story, completely neglecting the fact that this is the first time issue #20 has been reprinted in a collected edition (if at all). It was the last part of the previous author’s story, but still a fantastic example of what was to come from Moore.

When DC says it, it’s an announcement, not reporting. Reporting is what you all are supposed to be doing.

    There’s 8 issues in it.

They could have gotten one more in, I suppose, but it probably works better as an opening to the next volume; #27 has a nice ending. And doing that would throw off the size of next volume, while going longer and fitting in the next multi-parter would make the book rather larger than they usually do in this format.

If you want an omnibus style edition rather than a normal-format hardcover, you’ll probably need to wait for THE ABSOLUTE SWAMP THING, whenever they get to that.
