It looks that Warner Bros. will be striking the iron when it’s hot.
High Def Digest has announced that in March, just before the release of the highly anticipated live-action film, Warner Bros. will release a motion comic of all twelve chapters of Watchmen on Blu-Ray DVD.
The fledgling art form has been getting some serious attention in the past six months, with Invincible, Batman: Black and White, and even Max Payne starting to pioneer the motion comics frontier. But with Watchmen, this could not only introduce comics-averse audiences to the original story, but could in turn drum up anticipation for both the film and the original graphic novel.
According to the release, the suggest retail price will be $38.95, and will be released March 3.

Wow.. that seems pretty pricey.

I can’t imagine anyone unfamiliar with the material wanting to spend almost $40 on a crudely-animated version of Watchmen when the comic itself is half that price and a ticket to the movie will cost even less than that, but that’s just me.

I’m confused. I have never seen one of these motion comics before. Do they just present the original comic, and add in a little bit of animation?
or is it a fully animated film?

For that price, I’m hoping they went with more than one voice artist, as opposed to the guy who had to voice all the male AND female characters in the one issue I saw before promtping giving up on them.

I can’t believe practically everything I read online from viewers in negative about motion comics. Lifelong comic fan and I think they’re very, very cool.
I do agree with Vinnie that hopefully they got more voice actors. I’ve got the collected edition Watchmen and plan on getting the Blu-Ray version too.

Have any of you read audio books? That’s what you’re essentially getting here. There’s one reader only. Stop whining.
