I do agree with the point that Diamond is not purposely trying to “wipe out the little guys” I don’t see any of this as a big conspiracy. My point has been why Diamonds business plan doesn’t work for them selling 10, 100 or even a 1000 comics and not be able to make a profit on that.

Let’s say Diamond gets an order for 300 comics (at $3.95 each) that Carnal has solicited through their catalog. Under the new benchmark, they will cancel that order and not ship any. I don’t really understand how they gain by cancelling the order. They have already put it in their catalog and they are already shipping lots of other comics to the same stores. So all they do by cancelling a smaller order is not make ANY money from that order. Can someone explain that?

And yes we are facing a rough economy ahead – no matter what Diamond did/does. So hang on – it’s going to be a bumpy ride…

I didn’t say Adult Comics were gone, I said it might be even harder to find ‘em in the shops. And I’m not “Chicken Little’ing ” about any one genre of comic. I fully believe it’s going to happen to the entire industry, and that the art form has to (and actually already has begun to) evolve in order to survive. That’s just the end result of the basic equation: little to no new incoming readership + dying fanbase= buh-bye comic world as we know it. This doesn’t mean I’m happy about it, I’ve devoted my time, money and love into print comics for 40 plus years. But I’m not going to stick my head in the tarpit with the other dinosaurs and ignore the all-too evident feeling of slowly sinking into oblivion.

So the perspective is now “Diamond loves us! They’re punishing us for OUR sins, not theirs! All is well! It’s OUR fault!”

Huh.

I’d respect this opinion more if Fangoria had published, I don’t know, any comics worth reading. And trying to jump on Dan Vado’s coattails is disgusting. Vado’s published more good comics than you’ve read.

Just because the Adult Supplement is gone doesn’t mean adult comics are gone.

Diamond has always had the solicits for the adult books still in the main catalog, just left the solicit info in the Supplement. They may now include it as part of the regular catalog.

They may also have a section on their website for the adult stuff. I always was able to order what I wanted from Carnal without any problems without ever needing the Supplement. Just looked at the solicits through DCBS’s version of the catalog when ordering. (And I would include XXXenophile in that list since Foglio unfortunately hasn’t done anything new there in years.)

I think you’re Chicken Little’ing about the end of adult comics. No one says they’re gone yet. When they stop showing up in the main catalog, then I’ll worry.
