TV Guide says that Zatanna is coming to Smallville. Actress Serinda Swan will apparently don the top hat in an episode later this season.
To quote the Guide itself:
Swan will appear in this season’s 17th episode, “Hex,” as Zatanna, a magician who grants birthday girl Chloe a wish. Having been through the wringer ever since Brainiac mind-boinked her and Doomsday crashed her wedding day, Chloe expresses a desire to lead the comparatively mild-mannered life of Lois Lane. Voilà! Chloe magically inhabits Lois’ (and thus Erica Durance’s) body for the bulk of the hour.
Clark is also granted a wish. But what could he possibly want for?
All right, readers . . . who from the classic JLA still remains unseen on Smallville? Aside from the obivous Batman and Wonder Woman . . . isn’t it about time that a GL dropped by? Frankly, I’m still waiting for Lana to turn into Insect Queen for an episode. Or did I miss that already?

Hachi Machi!!! I had no idea somebody could get that skinny but still be so busty. So, so busty….
Mmmmm, fishnets…
If only Paul Dini was writing it.
January 22nd, 2009 at 3:30 pm
Yawn. Chloe and Lois switching bodies, what a boring, generic TV cliche. Do the writers even try anymore, where’d Johns go?

Ah, nuts. Remove that comment about Preacher. Got my websites mixed up!

Having googled and reviewed her extensive…resume… I fully support a Zatanna spin off.

Fully support.

Maybe Clark will wish to fly…
January 22nd, 2009 at 4:02 pm
Her in fishnets please.
January 22nd, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Oh my. This season just keeps getting better.
January 22nd, 2009 at 4:39 pm
Yes, she is gorgeous. But so were the actresses who played Imra and Black Canary, and both were lousy actresses. This show’s track record is mixed when it comes to female guest stars.
I echo the thought that I wish they would have hired Paul Dini to write this. And maybe they would have then hired his girlfriend, the magician and Zatanna lookalike Misty Lee, to play the part.
Heck, I just want Dini writing an episode. And maybe McDuffie. And any other talented veterans of the animated series. Since there aren’t any really good writers around.
And yes, it’s way past time we see a Green Lantern. I also want the Question.
January 22nd, 2009 at 4:47 pm
So when do we get the big Justice League, six part, blowout extravaganza on the show? If the peoples that make this show want to see it go out in a satisfying bang, that’s one way to go. Shucks, you’ve got enough of the players… personally, I want to see (a better written) Cyborg in action again!
January 22nd, 2009 at 4:54 pm
MMMMMMMM…let me get out my magic wand! OOHH!
Still not going to watch that loaf of a show.
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Where is Smallville anyway? Just were are all these people going that they manage to pass through that town?
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:21 pm
NO one’s actually in Smallville anymore lol More than likely she will show up in Metropolis. I looove Zatana though. Hope they do her some justice. I want some backwards talking action
She looks like a good choice, just don’t make her too slutty
January 22nd, 2009 at 6:27 pm
Of course, never mind that Clark didn’t actually meet ANY of these people until AFTER he became Super-Man in the comics…but as they’re not trying to follow the timeline of the comics, I guess it really doesn’t matter.
January 22nd, 2009 at 7:12 pm
I just want to say that Serinda Swan is a great comic-book name. Todd McFarlane should totally use it.
January 22nd, 2009 at 7:23 pm
David:
Actually, in the comics (including “pre-Crisis”), Clark met Lois Lane, Perry White, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Bruce Wayne, Hal Jordan, Zatanna’s father Zatara, and Martian Manhunter before he ever became Superman.
January 22nd, 2009 at 9:04 pm
That can be good!!!
Damm good!!!
January 22nd, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Hohum.Another hottie to joint Smallville 90210. Let’s hope she isn’t has irritating as them all.But wait she has already taken a leaf out of Durance’s book with the lady lumps being her best feature. Are they fake like Durance’s too. People,Bats and Wondy and GL but wait maybe it is a blessing they don’t show up and get shafted with lousy scripting.
If Zatanna is responsible for Clark flying it will be the pits.Plus is that a stupid plot or what?I thought Chloe was a smart girl.
January 22nd, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Hey I can not believe it is the Absoulte poker.net girl going to play Zatanna.Good to see another Vancouver born actor playing on smallville.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Holy hell, I might have to watch Smallville again!
January 23rd, 2009 at 1:32 am
Batman and Wonder Woman have no business being in Smallville. At this point, Bruce Wayne is still brooding about life in his lonesome besides his butler, and Wonder Woman is an amazon Goddess made out of clay.

If WB decides to make a Zatanna live-action series, that would be a good welcome break from the usual focus on Batman and Superman. She doesn’t have too many continuity obsessions and could conceivably keep the show under budget. Done right, maybe it could become the next “Charmed” and have an equally rabid following.

Holy lord.

y’know…I thought her powers would offer the perfect solution to the “Everybody will recognize Clark as Superman” problem. Sh casts a spell where when anyone thinks back on fond Clark memories, they picture him with glasses, even tho he didn’t wear them until assuming the disguise. A simply solution in the DC-verse context.

Lana was a pseudo-Insect Queen in Season One, when they went up against the Meteor Freak who could control insects. Many references and winks and nods were made to the “Insect Queen” concept.

Zatanna is a beautiful and talented performer, and I think think they nailed it right by casting Serinda Swan. I look forward to this episode, hopefully by incorporating all these characters it’ll lead to something more… Bruce Wayne maybe?
January 23rd, 2009 at 11:19 am
I do not watch Smallville, but I will tune in for this! I’ve been waiting to see Hollywood bring this character to life. Obviously they’ve chosen an actress who will look the part (I can’t wait to see Swan in Zatanna’s “costume”). Now we can only hope they will do Zee justice (no pun intended). I echo the thoughts of those who have already said that it would be much better if they’d hired Paul Dini to write this one.

I’ve been watching Smallville since the first season and watched it yo-yo from interesting to awful to fantastic, and this season is probably the best yet.
The dialogue is so much better, and they’ve removed the horrible soundtrack of the past seasons (basically advertisements for the current top 40). They’re even using continuity between episodes. I’m so proud of them!!!
Whatever they’re doing, they need to keep it up.

I have to retract what I said about young Clark having met young Diana. The story I was thinking of had a Year One Superman meeting a still-on-the-island Diana (back when Diana was supposed to be a lot younger than the rest of the gang).
Although there still might have been a story where they met, it wasn’t the one I was thinking of.
January 25th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
She looks like she was plucked from the mind of Michael Turner.
I dunno. There’s such a thing as being too hot, especially when you’re going for the “We’re all outcasts” angle.
