The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh DVD was briefly in print, but Disney appears to have pulled it. I hate how they do that.

Anyhow, this is sad, sad news. I’d read about how there was talk about a cameo for Patrick in the upcoming Priz mini-series, but that his poor health wouldn’t allow him to travel. Just a couple days later, he’s gone. I’m not hot about upcoming AMC version (I’d much rather see Chris Nolan’s long-rumored feature film happen), but I am glad to hear that the mini-series did get Patrick’s blessing.

Although I’m watching season 4 of Lost on DVD to gear up for season 5, I think a marathon of Prisoner episodes is in order for this weekend. I also think a dedication to McGoohan on the season premiere of Lost would be an appropriate, tasteful thing to do.

Does anyone else remember Thomasina and The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, or am I just that old? I loved McGoohan when I was a kid and a teen. When I taught myself how to use library resources such as The Reader’s Guide to Periodical Literature, I used McGoohan’s name to look up any articles that mentioned him. Yeah, I was a real nerd as a kid. I’m going to miss him. And it looks as though many, many people will. Such sad news.

Ostrakos, I had to check IMDB, but I think you’re thinking of Patrick Macnee, who played John Steed in The Avengers tv series.

McGoohan had no involvement in that particular show.

Bugger.

For those who don’t know, he had a comics role of two as well – he played the elder Kit Walker against Billy Zane in The Phantom, and back in the 50′s he played the Reverend Doctor Christopher Syn, AKA The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh in a three episode run from The Wonderful World of Disney, something I’d sorely like to get a copy of.
