Last week, at the advice of almost everybody, I picked up Blue Monday: Thieves Like Us. I think perhaps I should start at the beginning with Bleu and the gang, since I was a bit confused as to what was going on, but was certainly capable of cackling at the naughty humor. Naughty is the right word for it, I think. Though the sex jokes are obvious, the book has an innocent feel that almost seems quaint, looking back. Dirty would imply that they knew what they were talking about.
Anyway, this week, I’ll be reading DMZ #38 (seems so appropriate, the week before the inauguration)…and that’s it. Been tradewaiting Fables, so no need to recommend that, but all other suggestions are welcome.
Someone tell me about Young Liars, in particular. Probably not a great time to pick it up in the middle of things, but I’m intrigued.
And no, I will not be buying Obama Spider-Man.

pick up the young liars trade that just came out its, the first six issues of a crazy messed up debaunched caper - the story takes some radical turns after this arc but definitely start out with the trade, i think its pretty cheap too.

I’m guessing that Resistance # 1, based on the popular First Person Shooter video game for the PS3 also won’t pique your interest.

Absolutely check out the new Locke & Key miniseries. The first volume is available in hardcover and was one of the best comics of last year. I’m not sure how new reader friendly the new series will be, as it picks up stuff directly after the first miniseries, but I’m sure it’ll be an excellent read.

I highly recommend Young Liars…but don’t really know how to explain it…a twisted spiritual sibling to Phonogram? If Phonogram is like Justice, The Blow, Yacht, Crystal Castles, or early My Bloody Valentine (in varying tones of story)…Young Liars is like Shellac, Joy Division, or Sonic Youth’s Washing Machine album; in another words you’re addicted to listening to them but don’t walk away feeling great, lol. So track down the first two issues …do not start with a random issue.
Recommendation for Wednesday? If you have the money, get the single collection of Mome volumes 7 - 10; I’ve read most of the material inside, and it’s definitely one of your better options for the whole year…just skip buying comics for the next couple weeks to afford it if you have to, totally worth it.
