Even more sad Christmas news: CNN has reported that the singer and actress Eartha Kitt passed away today. She was 81.
Kitt was a woman of many talents, with her song “Santa Baby” getting gold last week. But perhaps she was most admired by the comic-reading set for her purring portrayal of Catwoman on the 1960s Adam West “Batman” television show.
According to representatives, Kitt died in New York after battling with colon cancer, her daughter Kitt Shapiro at her side.

She was amazing and will be missed!!!

Well that sucks, she was always the BEST Catwoman. Michelle Pfeiffer had nothing on Eartha Kitt.

Kind of funny how much Ms. Kitt and the Cat are linked. She did so much else in her career, and she was Catwoman only three times. And yet, did anyone purr like she did?
What I remember her most for, though is Ysma in “The Emperor’s New Groove.” Her voice was still amazing, and so was her comic timing in a film full of great voice actors.

Man, this is awful news on a Christmas Day. I was just talking to a friend earlier in the day that I needed her autograph on my Batman Batbook because so many of the talents on that show were long gone. I needed her and Burt Ward, because there’s no one else left that I can get, but I also wanted to see her jazz cabaret shows here in NYC on top of that, and now I can’t see her sing live and tell her how much admiration I had for her potrayal as Catwoman. Julie Newmar may have been the best looking, but Eartha Kitt’s purring made that role hers to own. Deepest condolences to her family on their loss of such a talent.

Very sad news…though can we fix the spelling error on her name on the newsarama link? It says Ertha Kitt.

My least fav catwoman, but she was still awesome. may you rest in peace.

Eartha Kitt’s Catwoman was all her own, just as Julie Newmar’s was.
May she rest well.

I just got the news after waking up and excercising. Its sad. My prayers are to her family. She was definitely the best Catwoman. I do agree with Jason about Michelle Pfeiffer. I can also add that Halle Berry had nothing on Ms. Kitt.
Rest in Peace Ms. Kitt.
