Never underestimate the power of a fan and editing software, my mother always used to say. She was right: December has been a fan-tastic month when it came to user-generated pop culture movies.
One great example is YouTube user WormyT‘s homemade trailer for Thundercats, starring Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman, and Vin Diesel:
Talk about amazing. Seriously, WormyT has got skills.
Meanwhile, if you’re digging for some longer work, check out the modestly-named “The Greatest Fan Film of All Time,” by Jacob Drake and Larry Longstreth (as well as their veritable army of voice actors). To distill it to its high concept: it’s more than 40 minutes of Seth McFarlane humor meets Paul Dini action, all wrapped into the premise of “The Ultimate Showdown.” And you get to learn why Batman never gets invited to parties.

“The Greatest Fan Film of All Time” is getting raves around the net, and with good reason–I’ll be writing about it soon on my daily fan film blog, fancinematoday.com, which covers everything fan film-related. Also, for what it’s worth, I wrote the first book about the history and future of fan movies, Homemade Hollywood, which just came out in bookstores.
