Just a note - Takahashi isn’t the book’s artist. One Iroha Inoue is credited with the visuals in teeny tiny letters in the Preface… there’s also a credited scenario writer, which leads me to believe Takahashi came up with the stats info core of the book, which TREND-PRO maybe processed into a comic…

I guess the credits for Bat-Manga could have been much, much worse...

Thanks for pointing that out; I never would have noticed it, and it still took some hunting to find notation of who the artist was...as far as I can find, they're only mentioned in Takahashi's thank you paragraph at the end of the preface.

I'll go back into the post and try to make sense out of that.

By the way, interested parties, Jog has a much more thorough and authoritative reivew on his blog:

Thanks for posting... I like seeing school material presented in new ways. It's not the first I've heard of academic manga, though. Last year Kaplan produced an SAT-themed manga. I found it be a bit too contrived; hopefully this stats manga does better.

If you're interested, I covered the SAT manga in http://www.teamuptutors.com/resources/blog/2007/08/relinquish-control-of-this-junebug-or-burn/ (or click on my name, above)...
