Smallville has had its major ups and downs over the last seven years. There have been moments of genius right along side moments so head scratchingly bizarre (or boring). Critically and ratings-wise, this season has seen an upswing, and it looks to continue that after the standard TV winter break. When it returns, Smallville returns with a bang, featuring an episode written by Geoff Johns and starring the Legion of Superheroes. The newest trailer features good shots of each of the core three (though no power usage yet, we DO get the Legion fist raise), along with teases for developments with the other characters like Chloe, Doomsday, and Mercy. The second half of the season is shaping up to be some of the best Smallville yet, and I can’t wait for January 15th.

Persuader!
December 18th, 2008 at 8:03 am
at 0.42 – doomsday
December 18th, 2008 at 8:22 am
it’s frustrating that the show deviated so far from it’s core concept and became lois and clark without superman, but it’s enjoyable at times. should’ve been cancelled long ago though…

LEGION FLIGHT RINGS!
December 18th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Yes…flight rings…Persuader…and Johns possibly using some of what he’s been using the comics in reweaving Superman’s legend.
Any chance he might want to write an episode of Heroes next?

What with me being your friendly neighborhood “Post Gamer,” I’m biased, but this season has really paid off as a viewer who’s stuck with it from Day One. Tons of good stuff, and WAY more fulfilling than Heroes.
Said it before and I’ll say it again, I cannot believe they are just getting to the LSH in the 8th season. LOL! I swear it’s been a gimme storyline since the show began. Can’t wait!

Holy Cow!!! Johns did it again!!

Long Live The Legion!

Legion spinoff?
Another season of Smallville so we can have another guest shot?
something?
December 18th, 2008 at 11:27 am
OMG SO GOOD.
I’ve been dying for this episode the second I first heard about it. Smallville has been excellent this season, but I think this is gonna take it to a new level.

Looks good. Looks very good. But i still want a Green Lantern power ring more than a Legion flight ring.
I feel ashamed, but i only just now get the fact that Tess Mercer is “Mercy.” I’m off my game.
December 18th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
good for Geoff. congrats. looks fun/
December 18th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
looks sweet
Hopefully they’ll lie Johns write the next superman movie
December 18th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
I am super happy for him and us. This is a great thing for the show.
December 18th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Looks really good. I keep saying with tweens being all the rage right now, a Legion series would be a great way to end Smallville and cash in on the trend. It would also spell DOOM for Heroes which needs to die anyway.
BTW, I thought we were done with all the Lana drama?!?
December 18th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Great stuff. This show just keeps getting better and better.
December 18th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
I may just watch that episode.
December 18th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Never liked Legion and dropped Smallville long ago.
But Geoff Johns can do no wrong.
December 18th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
…GREAT KRYPTON!!!! Is it too early to start lobbying for a Legion TV series?? I mean…wow!
The Persuader? Doomsday (lookin’ LIKE Doomsday?) The Legion flight rings? And that awfully familiar scene of the Legion gathered around the table that looks an awful lot like the time the Legion were trying to revive Lightning Lad?
Holy frijoles…!
December 18th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
1) Legion spin off is the best idea ever.
2) OJ Flow is right, Smallville (for all its ups and downs) has always been more satisfying than heroes.
3) Why isn’t clark wearing glasses yet?

“I feel ashamed, but i only just now get the fact that Tess Mercer is “Mercy.” I’m off my game.”
I had to explain to my weekly Smallville co-watchers that “Tess Mercer” is a play on “Miss Tessmacher” from Superman: The Movie. At least, I think it is!
December 19th, 2008 at 9:19 am
durkadurka, Matt, Tess is in fact Mercy. Oliver Queen even called her Mercy a couple times in a nice nod to those longtime fans that would recognize the name.
justin, Lana’s only back for a couple more episodes, and it looks like she’ll at least kick some ass while she’s around.
December 19th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Yes, I remember Ollie calling her Mercy, especially around the episodes dealing with his origin, but I also think the name is referencing Miss Tessmacher. It’s a clever combination of the memorable female Luthor assistants, or at least that’s how I saw it.
December 19th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
OMG! I want to scream in happiness!!!!!
December 20th, 2008 at 12:58 am
Epic.
And I don’t even watch this show.
But I will watch this, cause I love me some Legion.
And Legion spinoff? Would loooove that, but it’ll never happen. :[

As much as I love to hate Geoff Johns, the man’s far superior to the average small-screen, comic-adapting hack. Knock it out of the ballpark, Geoff. Now if only we could get Grant Morrison to pen the series finale…
