Rod Reis’ Speed Coloring

December 18th, 2008

I came across this movie on Facebook today, and thought it was especially illuminating for all fans of the comic book medium. This is Rod Reis, colorist of Terror Titans, Supergirl, and Countdown, doing his work.

While the video is a few weeks old, it seemed especially relevant considering that this image, from the DC Universe Holiday Special, was just released yesterday.

I found it fascinating to see Reis’ impact on the art — it not only provides “pop” for the viewer to focus on, but really impacts the very structure of someone’s face. You learn something new about this business every day.

Erm … this is a beautiful, fascinating demo, and shows Reis’s amazing talent, but am I the only one who noticed that he put the orange light on the wrong side of the dude’s face?

Sometimes it pays not to just leap in all brushes-and-lassos akimbo…

    Great vid, tho.
