This era of the Legion was so amazing. There was so much depth put into the characters and they were so inspiring. I remember reading somewhere that this incarnation was so depressing, yet I wholeheartedly disagree. Rokk was anything about hope, he would never give up and that's how he put back together the Legion.

I so want to re-read the entire run, now, heehee!

Heh. I like your thinking, Ricardo. But the question is, how do you write your way around "End of an Era", then...?

After the 5-year-gap era, reading any Legion rehash is quite painful. Hopefully, Giffen will return and toss aside all these Silver Age nostalgia for some solid risky stories.

Amen, Simon, amen.

Michael, you picked a heck of an issue to use for the backbone of the article. This was one of the hallmarks of the Bierbaum/5YL run: slight format tweaks that made the Legion of the era more than a comic book-- it was truly a graphic novel played out in long form. The interposing text/art pages that were in both this issue and in issue #38 ("The End") enhanced and drove the stories perhaps even more effectively than any four-color panel alone could have.

I think I have to agree with you, too: Rokk is quite simply the greatest Legionnaire penned. Geoff even made some note of that in L3W, mentioning how he gave up pretty much everything in life so the rest of his friends could -have- one outside of the Legion. (I don't entirely agree with this; pairing him with Lydda in classic Legion was spectacular or, in ZH Legion, pairing him with XS or Jazmin/Quantum would've been an absolute delight.) Even when faced with the weight of the galaxy or the universe on his shoulders, he stood tall and proud and took up the burdens of the world in order to insure that there was a future.

Good call, Michael.
