I have enjoyed the show mostly because of the reinvention of Superman and the lack of the suit. It made him more human and likable to me. I hope he doesn’t put on the traditional suit and they come up with a different and better outfit the current S-man design. This show has always worked for me because it more about Clark Kent discovering himself as a person and deciding his own way and not some hoakie goody two shoes character. He is Superman w/o the suit and what’s under the suit has always mattered more the suit and I think the writers have shown that …well done… so it a suit come fine…if not better or a better one (Superman X anyone)

But I do not think this show has more than one more season. I think creatively its time to move to another DC property. May a Static series, or Teen Titans, or Huntress, or Nightwing…

THE SHOW PROVE THIS SEASON THAT ISN’T PAST THE EXPIRE DATED. THE WRITER PROVE THAT THERE IS STILL LIFE IN THE SHOW. MAYBE IT IS TIME FOR THE SHOW TO SPIN-OFF EITHER THE GREEN ARROW OR THE JUSTICE LEAGUE SHOW. HOW ABOUT A SHOW TELLING WHAT BRUCE WAYNE WAS LIKE BEFORE HE FINALLY BECOME THE BATMAN. The whole series is full of conflicts with the movies and the comics, and that’s fine, so I don’t see what the problem is with Clark being in the blue and red at the end of the series. Heck, if the powers that be can stomach having 2 different actors playing Batman and Superman in the main movies and the Justice League movie, which is what the plan was before the writer’s strike, I don’t see what the problem is in Clark donning the big red “S” at the end of the show.

But I think it is time for the show to end, else Clark won’t become Supes til he’s 40. Hopefully, if I’m guessing right, the show will end this season with a throw down between the JL and Luthor’s Injustice League/Gang. Don’t see how this series can end with Chloe still alive though.

What?!Close it now that the show is good again,the seasons six and seven were nice but this year it’s really good, the changed creators give the show really fresh ideas.I hope it will go for a ninth season.
If all this people is not interested in Smallville why bother to write this blog or ask for seeing Tom in a Superman suit, (that i hope it will never happen)?
Leave the show to their fan.

I agree with sebzero11. A couple of years ago, I wouldn’t have minded seeing the series end.

But this season has been the best season of the series. As long as they can keep the quality as high as it’s been this season, I want the series to keep going. It’s better than any of the other other, similar shows (Heroes, Fringe, Sarah Connor) and basically the only TV show that I look forward to seeing.

With Millar and Gough gone, let’s lose the no-tights/no-flights rule and get this party started.

Two seasons ago, I would’ve said “end it”.

Now, I say “Keep it coming!” I’m really enjoying this show again! The Clark/Lois dynamic is wonderful. And Lois is smokin’ hot!

As for “Smallville” being a misnomer, that’s not entirely true. While it does focus mainly on Metropolis, Lois has called Clark “Smallville” since day one, and since the show is about (mainly) Clark, and now Clark and Lois, I think Smallville still works as a title.

I’m not concerened by newsarama poster hating it. 90% of newsarama poster hate EVERYTHING!

You know honestly, I could live with Welling not coming back. I really think he’s one of the biggest drags on that show. Besides it’s called “Smallville” not “superman” or “Superboy” so if Welling decides to opt out for a film career (I’m sure THAT’LL take off) It sort of reminds me of the Shelly Long/Cheers thing.

She made a name for herself on an ensemble TV show, thought her star power was bigger than it was, left the show to try her hand at movies, and best she could do was Troop Beverly Hills. Meanwhile Kirstie Alley replaced her and became a hot commodity in the 80s and 90s.

The show could survive without Welling. Focus on Green Arrow for awhile Tom will come back don the red suit and give everyone a nice series finale. Hell, you could “kill him” at the end of this season, have the death and return of superman thing. Let season 9 be all about the JLA (Aquaman, Impulse, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Cyborg) and then when Welling decides to limp back he can make a grand return.

Disappointing to hear if it ends. This is the first season in a few years that has been really good. Now that they are more willing to move the character forward like they have this season, would hate to see it end now. And yeah I really don’t understand why they are worried about any overlap between the tv show and the movie.

I hope they can convince Tom Welling to stick around for a 9th and final season, and from the opening episode work towards a spectacular, satisfying series finale.

And I agree with those who are liking Erica Durance – excellent casting.

There are only two cast members I would want to see in a live-action Superman movie — Erica Durance and Michael Rosenbaum. Welling is an absolutely horrible Clark Kent. Spinning a movie out of Smallville would have been a good idea maybe four years ago. But now, it won’t work — this show has screwed with the Superman mythos far too much.

Stroylines sticking more to the DC universe are showing how cool this show an be, Would love a scene with Bruce wayne leaving Tess’s office as Clark comes out of the elevator, they pass, nod a hello as in being mannerly and go on their way. Would be soooo cool knowing their future etc

I think that the most appropriate is TURN TOM WELLING INTO HE SUPERMAN OF THE MOVIES.

He`s got charisma, is a nice actor and make people that don`t like superman (me included) start at least to respect the character (superman)

Brandon Routh has nothing to do with superman myth, but Tom has a lot.

If tptb end “Smallville” (after season 8 or 9) I would love to see the cast (especially TOM WELLING, Michael Rosenbaum, Erica Durance, Allison Mack & Annette O’Toole) in a -rebooted- new SUPERMAN movie!

WB could use the complete SMALLVILLE-series like some kind of giant “pilot” for such a motion picture; use the characters and base the story of such a film loosely on the show.
It worked great a few years ago (in the 80s) for the “Star Trek” (Classic)series, which made succesful the jump from the tube on the big screen.

…and I would LOVE to see TOM (Clark) wearing the “S”-uniform on the show, at least in the final scene of the final episode!!

Please WB & CW make it happen!

I really love the Christopher Reeve-SUPERMAN movies, and TOM WELLING is the only actor I want to see in (possible) upcoming new Superman-movies.
(Remember the “passing of the torch” in episode # 2.17 “Rosetta”?

After these scenes I was so sure, that TOM would be our generations next “big-screen-Superman”!!)

Yeah, let it end. The guest-stars like Justice League and others were cool back then. But now they even put Green Arrow in Metropolis???
The premises for the series is the formative years from Clark Kent of Smallville to become Superman in Metropolis.
And now he IS in Metropolis, let him be SUPERMAN for God’s sake. What else are they waiting for?
Let Clark have the power to fly, and give him the red-and-blue suit. It’s due time…

Another idea for NEW Series : Wouldn’t it be better to watch Bruce Wayne formative years, as he’s running around the world, studying martial arts, etc, connect with the underworld, espionage, mystic dealing, etc? It wouldn’t be in conflict with the movie since the film only show him at his last stages with Ra’s. And the series can have all sort of genres playing out : espionage, crime, martial art, mystic, etc.
Not to mention other DC-universe sites and characters (I would like to see Zatanna/Zatarra…)

I disagree heavily with idea of having Smallville tie-in with a Superman feature film. Smallville is it’s own story, love it or hate it, and after nearly eight years, let it end.

I think Warners should focus on rebooting the Superman film franchise cold turkey ala Batman. No Smallville, no Lois & Clark, no Chris Reeve Superman films. Give us something FRESH, goddammit.

I would love the next motion picture franchise of Superman & the Justice League to come from this show. As Star Trek successfully parlayed the original series into a movie franchise, et al.
I mean keep the actors. I love Erica Durance over Kristen Kruek now…the Smallville story has been told. But why lose this great ensemble?
Think about it mouthbreathers…the Smallville cast continued on The Big Screen, written by Geoff Johns anyone?

As much as I avoided the two (3? don´t remeber…) previous seasons, This last one has been pretty good and fresh. As someone else said, If it has to end, let it at least be a planned ending. Clark’s Red and blue has been around forever, and I think everyone would like to see him wering at leat some BIG S and maybe a red cape. Oh, and I can’t wait to see Geoff Johns episose

I always thought would be cool would be that, after the cast graduated, they change the name to “Metropolis” and focus on Clark becoming Superman rather than trying to keep a foot in Smallville. I think it’s kind of ridiculous that the entire cast commutes from Smallville to Metropolis every day. Ma and Pa Kent are no longer in the picture and Lana is pretty much gone. What else in Smallville is there? That said, I have been enjoying this season and hope that we eventually do get to see Clark don the costume.

I’ll certainly miss “Smallville” when it ends. It’s been a fun show with an eye candy cast and a solid addition to the Superman mythos. Even now, I still think it’s better than some of the Superman comics in recent years.

@ Jason: I read this article earlier today, and the line that Dan quoted did indeed say “… conflict with the main television series.” David must’ve come back in and edited it. No big deal… I make far too many typos myself! David probably should’ve acknowledged it, but like I said it’s not a big deal.

@ Jordan: I’ve never watched a lot of Smallville, and not in several years, but it never flipped my switch. Nor has Heroes. I can live without them. Sounds like few here will miss it. The show to be watching right now, or at least in January when it returns, is LOST. BSG isn’t too shabby either!
