Better Lat than never: One of Malaysia’s greatest exports, the cartoons of Datuk Mohamed Nor Khalid (better known as Lat, author of Kampung Boy), will be appearing on postal stamps. Suddenly I wish I had a Malaysian pen pal.
Apparently, Hell is a red state: Boston area cartoonist Richard Tenorio has self-published a collection of his four-panel gag cartoons about the 2008 election, mostly starring the two presidential candidates, the devil and a Richard Tenorio-like cartoonist. The Malden Observer has an artcle about Tenorio and his book, The Devil Made Me Blog It, and you can some of Tenorio’s cartoons here. I really dig his character designs for the candidates and the devil.
Back when Bendis was still just a twinkle in Quesada’s eye: I recently re-discovered a clipping I’d made of an old two-page comic strip Brian Michael Bendis did for the Cleveland Plain Dealer back in 1998, when he was younger and had less continuity burdening him. You know, Ultimate Bendis. You can check out a scan of it here. The weird thing is, the main character in it is actually a Skrull…Bendis really has been laying the ground work for Secret Invasion forever now.
