Variety reports that the Dark Knight has another notch in the utility belt: VOD, or video-on-demand.
While the $996 million blockbuster is due to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray this month, Warner Bros. has decided to release the film in South Korea on video-on-demand before DVD. This is a first for Hollywood, and they are looking to see if the Dark Knight can set the stage for a new method of distribution.
“Warner is planning to do active business with digital distribution, based on Korea’s strong digital infrastructure as a test bed for a pre-DVD VOD service,” Cho Hong-yeon of Warner Korea told Variety. “We will collaborate with local business partners of digital content, while coping with illegal downloads.”

Hmm, back when I used to work in the cable industry (sort of), VOD stood for Video-On-Demand. Has the acronym really changed to “Video On Delivery” or is that just a faux pas made by the article writer?
