It’s all speculation at this point, but Ryan over at Coke and Comics has noticed an interesting casting call for Iron Man 2:

As Ryan suggests, unless there’s a new character in the mix, this seems as though this could be setting up the Black Widow and the Crimson Dynamo.
The Black Widow, a Russian operative with physical enhancements and a shady past, attempted to seduce Iron Man’s industrialist alter ego Tony Stark before defecting and joining the Avengers. The Crimson Dynamo, meanwhile, was called upon by the Soviet Union to battle Iron Man, but eventually defected when he was disavowed by his superiors. The film is due to be released May 7, 2010.

So will Hilary Swank or her lookalike from the Vegas scene play her? I hope they go with someone a little mature instead of some throwaway Bond-girl-type. A thirty something ACTRESS and not just some bimbo. Also, preferably, someone who isn’t so tall that RDJ has to stand on a box

The only problem is that there might be villain overkill since they will probably want to develop The Mandarin more and some of them might not be fleshed out enough. They’ll probably be doing something more with War Machine too. But Black Widow would be a very tasty addition.

The Mandarin won’t be any major presence physically in the movie, Paul C. He’s being slowly developed in the first two movies for a big reveal in the third. So villain overcrowding shouldn’t really be an issue.
As for Crimson Dynamo and Black Widow?

This would make a whole lot of sense. Mandarin’s going to take a lot of fleshing out before they can really fit him into the vibe of the Iron Man films (Which have a more sci-fi bent than anything that suits the Mandarin as we know him). Throwing in Crimson Dynamo is a logical followup to the Iron Monger and Black Widow’s espionage angle would be a perfect fit, especially with the introduction of Nick Fury in the PS. Plus, since it’s coming out before Avengers, it sets up to have Black Widow involved somehow, especially if they keep up with the Ultimates angle and run with something along the lines of Grand Theft America for the plot.
I honestly wasn’t huge on Ultimates as everyone else, but I’ll readily admit it would work perfectly as a movie. I think I just had one of those nerdgasms I hear so much about.

If Milla Jovovich was cast into this movie it would probably be the greatest thing ever. She’s beautiful, eastern european, and has been doing martial arts forever.

It doesn’t have to revovle around the Cold War. It could be Russian Mafia or some faction in the goverment who wants to bring back communism to Russia.

Or just, y’know, modern Russia which is still pretty touchy in relations with the West. Missile defence shield? Energy blackmail in Eastern Europe? The vetoes on the UN Security Council? The August war in Georgia this year? Russia is still very much a credible threat.

I agree too, Milla Jovivich would be perfect for Black Widow, she was born in the Soviet Union..and she has the fighting martial arts skills down pat thanks to Resident Evil training. My vote is for her.
