If IMDB is to be believed, we now know the identities of Smallville’s teen-agers from the future.
The Kryptonsite fan site points out that the entry for the Geoff Johns-written “Legion” episode has been updated with 25-year-old Ryan Kennedy as Cosmic Boy, and 17-year-old Calum Worthy as Lightning Lad. They join 22-year-old Canadian actress/pop singer Alexz Johnson, who was confirmed as Saturn Girl earlier this month.
The trio are the founding members of DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes, who first appeared in Adventure Comics #247 (April 1958).
The episode apparently is set to air in January, the same month that sees the end of the Legion of Super-Heroes comic series.

Update (Friday, Nov. 21): As a reader points out in the comments, Kryptonsite now has a screencap from the “Legion” episode that features all three Legionnaires — in outfits that give a nod to their comic-book costumes. Also: The above photo of Calum Worthy apparently is a few years old.

If those pictures are current, Saturn Girl looks way too old for Lightning Lad.
November 20th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
would it not be cool if this episode proved to be so successful that they did a spin off for the Legion?
November 20th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Oh very nice. They look their parts.
The red head is cute. :p
November 20th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
I thought the same thing about Calum Worthy looking too young. If you do a search with his name and Dr. Doolittle 3, you should get a better idea what he may currently look like.

If they are not in their comic book costumes (not all black leotards), then the producers are idiots. especially if Clark is not shown in his Superman costume in the future.
Do they always have to cast Canadians?
November 20th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
“Do they always have to cast Canadians?”
Care to explain that comment?
This will be my first Smallville episode in quite awhile so I’m leery but optimistic.
November 20th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Well their in Canada so it’s just easier to cast Canadian actors.
November 20th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
“Do they always have to cast Canadians?”
I’m sorry, but what on earth does that have to do with anything?
Clark casted with an American is understandable since he grew up in rural Kansas. But the Legion is not even from Earth, so I hardly see what being or not being Canadian has to do with anything.
November 20th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Saturn Girl is hot. Very hot.
I’m looking forward to this episode, even though i’m not that big a smallville fan (but Doomsday does look cool), because Geoff Johns has a hand in it. I don’t know if it is the series finale or not, but it could be a cool one if at the end Clark goes into the future. I hope they somehow fit in a Brainiac 5, too.

“If they are not in their comic book costumes (not all black leotards), then the producers are idiots”
Indeed.
“This will be my first Smallville episode in quite awhile so I’m leery but optimistic.”
This show has degraded so much that you are not alone at all, and you can put me in that group too!
November 20th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
I think it’s best that they did cast Canadians as they would make at least semi-believable aliens when they show up in Smallville, Kansas.
Illegal aliens at that.
November 20th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Wow, I’m not the only one who watched the N. We’ve got stars of “Whistler” and “Instand Star” here. Now where are all the kids from Degrassi?!
November 20th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
The Legion will not be wearing their outfits as at this point, the costumed heroes were not publically known when the present day of “Smallville” takes place. As a result, they will dress like Clark does. Each will wear a set of clothes that present the colors of their uniforms in the future.
November 20th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
When I google Calum all I see if pics of him when he was like 8 or younger, so I imagine the pic in this article is how he appears now. He looks a little young…
November 20th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Even though I doubt it will happen, I would love to see the Legion in full superhero gear, spandex and all. The producers should realize they’re from the future and you can throw normal rules out the window when it comes to that stuff.
What excited me far more than the Legion being in this episode (I’m ten times more excited about Doomsday being on tonight’s episdoe) is that Geoff Johns is wrote it.
November 20th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
So Cosmic Boy will be sporting a pink shirt?
November 20th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Do they always have to cast Canadians?
In the future there will be nothing but Canadians. Sorry to break it to you; I’ll miss you all.
November 20th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Well Canadians do seem like they are from another planet so…
November 20th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Magnoball will take a back seat to Hockey and Curling, which will be Earth’s reigning #1 and #2 sports.
November 20th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Hockey Lad and Curling Girl will join the Legion.
November 20th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Dear lord please let this be the last season of Smallville. SOMEBODY SAAAAAAAAAAVE ME!!!!!!!
November 20th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
@ Sano: Just be like me and don’t watch the show! I still read these articles here, just to see what they’re doing, but I haven’t watched in years. Haven’t missed it a bit.
If you need something good to watch, and something that undoubtedly requires more thought than Smallville, go catch up on the first four seasons of Lost… Between the DVDs, reruns available on a couple of channels and iTunes or streaming video, it’s easy to get up to speed. New episodes begin Jan. 21 on ABC. I can’t wait!!

Sorry. You can accept either of two rationales for the casting:
1) It’s part of our master plan for World Conquest Without Ever Firing a Shot in Any Emotional State Whatsoever.
2) Our domestic TV networks won’t fund enough homegrown drama and comedy programming (yet) to make it necessary for the casting director to look elsewhere.
Whichever choice amuses you the most.

What is with all the retarded Canadian comments? Kristen Kreuk is Canadian and I dont hear any complaints about her. I literally live in Smallville and drive by the Kent farm every now and again. This show is getting a good head of steam going this season and I more excited than ever to see what happens. I was terrified when they announced Doomsday, and when Millar and Gough quit especially when last season was so completely weak. This show has been so good this year though, the comic references are flying fast and furious with some terrific homages. Geoff Johns wrote Legion, and has said he was able to use a villain he never thought he would be able to use which has me counting the days. This show is far from over, but then what does my opinion matter I am a Canadian. In fact, to write this comment I had to first chip it into a block of ice and have my trusty Eskimo Nanook dogsled it to the post office where it was packed in a cooler and sent to Washington where some nice American posted it for me. I have never really seen this intermanet people keep talking about and the only reason I was able to read this thread is because it was translated onto ice for me. sheesh

The casting people on this show are amazing. I wish they could get them to do the casting on the next Superman film because the casting in Superman Returns was all kinds of wrong. Everyone from the hero to the love interest to the villain were hilariously miscast.

http://www.kryptonsite.com/legionpromo18.htm nice to see they’re sticking with leather jackets with extras for costumes

Spoiler of a Villain on the Legion Episode!

Okay, the folks who are moaning about the current quality of SMALLVILLE must be the same group (or the Batch SW6 duplicates of them) who are cranking about this season of HEROES; to me, this is the best season of SMALLVILLE since the Teagues first appeared. Erica Durance is finally allowed to show her great range as an actress, and even Justin Hartley’s Oliver is more bowslinger than Bowflex. I’m even impressed with their take on Doomsday (if a little perplexed by their timeline…)
November 24th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
You’re mistaken A-F-O Boy. I just finally removed Heroes from my TIVO last week after the last mediocre episode I’d put up with. On the other hand, while Smallville was on the edge of getting dropped, it raised itself in quality with the last few episodes. The first couple this season were flops, but suddenly it has become unexpectedly better.
Smallville is given a warning, but stays. Heroes is gone. Sarah Connor stays. Fringe has almost worn out the welcome. Life on Mars (US) never made it.
November 25th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Fringe didn’t make it past episode 2; HEROES has no problems that can’t be attributed to either of 2 schools of thought: “it should be so much better…I don’t know HOW, exactly, but…” or “it’d be better if they just did ____”, the ____ being that person’s pet comic book plot they’ve never had the gumption to try to self-publish.
November 25th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
The overall problem with HEROES is unfixable.
They abused time travel since episode 1.
If your show is not named “Quantum Leap” or “Journeyman”, or does not revolve exclusively around time travel, then do not use time travel until the end of Season Five and as the overarching plot of Season Six.
November 29th, 2008 at 3:01 am
Time travel abuse isn’t the “overall problem” with HEROES, Squashua; the only paradox that’s hindering the show is that the most vocal of it’s “fans” are both close-minded AND fickle. When a major (and as I recall, Season 1 fan-favorite) character in a superhero series has the power OF time-travel, it’s unreasonable to expect that power is NOT going to be used to generate plotlines; just as it is to expect those time-travel-related plots will or can be wrapped up within the course of a single season.
