The first trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, which debuted Friday with Quantum of Solace, has hit the Internet bootleg circuit. You can watch it here — at least until Paramount’s lawyers contact YouTube — or wait until it’s officially released tomorrow on the movie’s website.

    …No one claps.

Theaters full of rabid fans clap.

  2. ElCoyote's Prophet Says:

I hate Star Trek. This doesn’t look like Star Trek.

It actually looks kind of interesting(which is why it doesn’t look like Star Trek, which is inherently lame, clinical and uninteresting).

This movie is to the rest of Star Trek as the original Battlestar Galactica is to the new series: in name only.

    Blah.

No one clapped for this or the new Watchmen trailer when I saw Quantum of Solace. That doesn’t mean they aren’t fans and don’t care- it means maybe they weren’t aware and hopefully the trailers caught their attention and interest.
I’ve never been a close follower of Star Trek, but I like that the characters are back in the original TV uniforms.

I can’t bring myself to watch it yet. The idea of Kirk in a sports car is enough to keep me away for a while. It just sounds wrong.

But there is only one way to judge accurately. Just not yet.

Funny, Simon… I was going to say pretty much the same thing. The whole angsty teen thing just isn’t working for me.

    Star Trek 90210? Ugh.

And what’s with this muscle car thing anyway? Ridiculous enough that he was one in the 23rd century, but then decides to trash it? Why the f*ck would you do something like that? Further, why the f*ck would I possibly want to see something like that during a Star Trek movie?

But, yeah, the only to really judge it is to see it. I’ll probably see QoS this week or coming weekend, and I’ll see the trailer then. I’ll try to actually watch and not turn away or cover my eyes when it plays.

@ ElCoyote: Once you create something that’s spawns six TV series (I’m including the animated show), 11 movies, hundreds of books, and makes billions of dollars over a span of 42 years, THEN I’ll listen to your opinion of what’s “lame” and “uninteresting.”

  8. Nick Marino Says:

i’m all for reinterpretations and i’m going to give this a shot. it just sucks that this reinterpretation looks like classic Star Trek only in the costumes and the ship – if this trailer is any indication, the spirit of Star Trek is missing.

  9. SONICMAN2 Says:

Went and saw QoS tonight. No Trek trailer before it?!? What gives?

  10. The Ugly American Says:

    This looks awesome.

  11. longshot7 Says:

I think it looks stupid. It will be as good as the Starsky & Hutch or Dukes of Hazzard remakes.

  12. Muscle Warfare Free Trial Says:

well done, very well written. I bookmarked your post.
