Cool things to look at: Graphic Fiction video

Yale University Press has put together a nicely animated video of editor Ivan Brunetti talking about his latest project, An Anthology of Graphic Fiction, Cartoons, & True Stories, Volume 2, which, I must say, is one of the finest collections I’ve come across this year.

I remember really enjoying the first Anthology… but at this point, these art comic anthologies have become soooo predictable. Oh look, a Chris Ware comic. Wow, they’ve includeed a Crumb strip about jazz. Shocking, a Dan Clowes comic. Lets get REALLY crazy and throw in a Jeff Brown or Lynda Barry piece. And hey, how about we just go wild and put in a chapter from Black Hole… its only been kicking around for a decade. What… Seth is invovled? Well then, I’m totally shocked to see Chester Brown and Joe Matt are also in there. The cannon of art comics hasn’t really changed in a the last decade. It just the same old thing again and I again. Sure they round it out with some no names, but are any of the no names ever good?
