Last week Midway revealed the box art for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, but now it’s rolling out the special North American Kollector’s Edition — featuring with hand-painted art by Alex Ross.
The Kollector’s Edition comes with a removable print by Ross, and a 16-page comic by Mortal Kombat co-creator John Tobias.
The full press release, and the Xbox 360 cover, can be seen after the break.
Midway Konfirms Details for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Kollector’s Edition
Packaging Art Hand Painted by Alex Ross, In-Pack Comic Book By MK Co-Creator John Tobias
Today, Midway officially confirmed details and box art for the special North American Kollector’s Edition of Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. Featuring box art that was hand painted by Alex Ross, one of the world’s most pre-eminent and respected comic book artists, the Kollector’s Edition will come in special packaging and feature an exclusive removable print designed by Ross as well as bonus video content. In addition, John Tobias, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise, returns to sketch a 16-page comic book to be published by DC Comics that chronicles the shocking, universe-shattering events that lead up to the in-game story mode.

I just want the print.

I wonder if Alex Ross threw a hissy because he had to paint Wally West as the Flash, and Hal’s not in his Silver Age costume.

No kidding! As a Wally fan, Ross & his ego just flat out irk me to no end.

Nice, although it makes me think of Kingdom Come, which then makes me think of my main problem with this game:
How the hell am i supposed to be expected to do a fatality on Batman?? It’s wrong i say! WRONG!

Thank goodness! A discussion of MK vs. DCU without the MK and Marvel fanboys whinning. I think we can finally kick back and wait for this game to come out.

I think it’ll be very easy to perform a Fatality on Batman. And fun.
As both a Marvel and MK fanboy, I resent that. Some people just like to whine. Or you could look forward to the game as I do and enjoy beating the snot out of DC characters and then finishing them.

I just want the comic.

Going to try to get the print off one of my friends who’s a big MK fan and will be certain to buy this.

I believe that this is the first time Ross drew Wonder Woman in her new belt and top as well.

I’m so mad Aquaman isn’t featured in the game but hope that he’s a secret character… I can’t wait to get the collector’s edition… but I don’t know if I’m going to have time to play it with all these crazy games coming out(Gears of War 2, Call of Duty 5, etc.) and comics(GL: Rage of Red Lanterns, Batman: Battle for the Cowl, GLC: Sins of the Star Sapphires, etc.)

I just think it is lame that the explanation for the game is “magic.”
“Why doesn’t Superman punch Sub-Zero into the sub-stratosphere?”
“He can’t. Because of magic.”
“Alright, then why can’t The Flash pummel Scorpion into a blood and urine soaked pulp?”
“He can’t because of magic.”
“Okay but what about Captain Marvel? He’s almost as strong as Superman AND he is magic.”
“Ehrm… MAGIC!”
The reason that Marvel vs. Capcom worked is because Marvel heroes aren’t impossibly powerful… so it is plausible that Ken could give Captain America a run for his money. This? I dunno… seems kinda hokey. Kinda like an old person trying to seem “cool”

Hm, Mortal Kombat is a trash ripoff of Street Fighter and the DC universe is a toilet of nostalgia where serialized storytelling goes to die.
I’m sure combining them will yield a better game than Marvel vs. Capcom 2, which still has a fanbase to this day!

Why does Mk vs DC get all this attention and Marvel vs Capcom get nothing? Where was the Alex Ross cover for any of the VS games? If it weren’t for Street Fighter vs X-men, or hell Akuma’s guest appeareance in X-men MK vs DC wouldn’t exist..

They had planned to make a cross over as early as MK4 in 98. They had wanted to do it with Street Fighter or some other fighter. But, nothing ever worked out, until the receptionists (or someother set of employees) at Midway and DC talked about the idea, and pitched it. Everyone agreed. Also, what better game for him to paint a cover for? Almost every one of the DC choices is an iconic, Silver Age character. Plus, it was most likely the choice of one, or both, of the companies *as they said they tried to do some of DC’s side based on Ross’ art.*. Blame either Marvel or Capcom for no Alex Ross cover before.

Sadly, I think the Fatalities have been eliminated from the game. That’s the reason for the “T” rating.
Also, Ross has always had a closer relationship with DC than Marvel. It’s no surprise he’s doing this cover and not a Street Fighter/X-Men cover.

Actually, the fatalities are still in the game. We’ve seen two fatalities. Scorpion’s toasty fatality, and The Joker’s Bang gun shot, followed by using real gun to shoot foe through the head. DC Villains and MK characters have Fatalities, DC Heroes have Brutalities. While brutal, they don’t kill.

”The reason that Marvel vs. Capcom worked is because Marvel heroes aren’t impossibly powerful…”
Did you forget about Hulk?Or Thanos?
Fanboy, MvC had alot of impossibly powerfull charaters thing is they didn’t bother explaning anything.
And last i check kid Superman is week agaisnt magic so i don’t know what you’re whining about.
At least they bothred to work it in the story.

boring cover, Ross’s Wonderwoman always look like dead-face mannequins.
