About a year ago “major franchise-wide downsizing” by horror magazine Fangoria’s former parent company, The Creative Group, led to the demise of the short-lived Fangoria Comics imprint. Now apparently they are back with a new name and a new parent company, but a similar line-up of titles, creators and staff. Troy Brownfield, associate editor and Newsarama contributor, shares the news on their MySpace page blog:
That’s right, kiddies. We’ve gotten the band back together! Troy Brownfield, Fangoria Graphix Associate Editor here. I don’t have to tell you all that’s it been a weird couple of years. But Executive Editor Scott Licina, Production Manager Jason Moser, Director of New Media Development James Zahn and I are thrilled to be back where it all started. Ever since Tom DeFeo and The Brooklyn Company took over, we’ve been talking about what new horrible things we could do to all you, er, do together. The logical first step was to put the work that we originally did under the Fango umbrella in its natural place: right here, right in front of you, our most loyal readers.
SO . . . knowing that, what are you going to see? There will be BUMP. There will be the complete RAGE and the complete STRANGELAND: SEVEN SINS. And in multiple languages. But there will also be new and frightening things in the offing. Like the DEATH WALKS THE STREETS series. Like ELLIUM. Like DOUBLOON. Like online and downloadable comics. Like novels. Like graphic novels. And more.

This is great news! BUMP is one of the best horror comics I’ve ever read, and I like everything else from Fango and Scream Factory, too. I’m glad to see the old mess is behind them.

Have we gone through this road before? When they did this the first time, I have said from day one that this was going to fail based on knowing the the customers’ buying and retailers’ ordering habits. Didn’t Scott tear Fangoria Entertainment a new one with the actual truth when they decided to stop publishing these books?

Actually, it went under due to the previous management, the sales were actually decent and going under had nothing to do with sales. The thread is still around newsarama with the full breakdown.

Jason’s right. Our problem was that we were swept up in problems plauging the larger corporate structure, and the suspension of publication had nothing to do with our sales. The plug was pulled before complete sales totals were even back on the very first issue we put out. Scott will be doing an interview with Newsarama soon, and I’m sure this will be covered completely.
The important thing is this: we have a great group of creators that, when faced with the first hurdle, stuck together and formed The Scream Factory. When the situation changed and Tom DeFeo talked to Scott about getting the band back together with some new twists, we saw an opportunity to do some good work.
I’m personally pretty excited about the things that we have coming up across platforms, and I hope that you’ll check it out.

Hope it works this time around I enjoyed them.
Any chance of publish the remaining issues that didn’t get published last time around such as the Four Horsemen?

Psivage,
First off, glad to hear that you enjoyed the books!
Second, the finale of “Beneath the Valley of the Rage” and the remaining issues “Strangeland: Seven Sins” should be available to you in at least two formats. Details soon.
We’ll have more to say about Horsemen and other projects (like Shifter) soon as well. We’ve already confimred that “ELLIUM” has joined our line-up of titles, and “Death Walks the Streets” is going forward after its successful summer launch. So I can say that even as we finish and straighten out the things we started with, we’re simultaneously going forward with solid new material too.
