Scifi.com talks to The Incredible Hulk visual-effects supervisor Kurt Williams about a different opening scene for the movie that’ll appear on the DVD and Blu-ray release, due Oct. 21:

“It takes place on an arctic shell,” Williams said in a group interview at the visual-effects house Rhythm & Hues in Marina del Rey, Calif. “Banner [Edward Norton] is desperate. He’s on the run, which is in keeping with some of the original themes from not only the comic books but the TV series. We wanted to put him in a stark place where basically he was at the end of the world. At that point, he wanted to try and end his life. The frustration comes when he can’t even end his life, because he Hulks out instead.”

The arctic scene was shot north of Vancouver, and this isn’t the first time it’s been mentioned: rumor has it that a frozen Captain America was supposed to appear in the scene. Williams said he could neither confirm nor deny that Cap would make an appearance.

I’d love to see that Cap cameo, the only reason to re-watch this dreadful movie…

It wasn’t the greatest movie I’ve ever seen or anything, but I don’t know what some people have against TIH… It was thoroughly entertaining for me, the acting was decent enough, and (IMO) a helluva lot better than that Ang Lee movie. More emphasis on the smashing (I don’t need a whole lot more from a Hulk movie), and Nick Nolte was nowhere to be found.

I’m looking forward to the DVD, and (hopefully, I haven’t actually heard) seeing the extended cut.

This sounds like a cool scene. I never heard from anyone who thought it was that bad. I liked it quite a bit, but personally, I thought Ang Lee’s Hulk was just as good.
