Lionsgate has released the final trailer for The Spirit, and it’s … probably the best piece of promotion to date for the Frank Miller movie. (Better late than never, right?) For once, his city doesn’t scream “Sin City!” or “This is Sparta!”
The Spirit opens on Dec. 25.

There’s just nothing more I can say at this point. I’m so freakin’ depressed over this movie that the Sam Jones TV one is starting to look genius in comparison.

Hmm. Well.
There’s humor. That’s good. “And it better be red!” was funny. The Sand Saref part looks nice. The Spirit gets beat up a lot.
But we’re still in sepia-with-one-or-two-colors land, with an overall muddy brown look that is not appealing. The Octopus has “eight of everything?” I hope that’s just a one-off quip and not an actual character gimmick. And are they actually trying to make it look like the Spirit has some kind of healing power, instead of just general resilience?

That didn’t look so bad — anything with The Octopus looked pretty excruciating and hideous, but Gabriel Macht as Denny Colt wasn’t too bad. They’ve pretty much also given up any pretension to this being connected to Will Eisner in any significant way — they’re going with the “yep, we admit it — this is Sin City” marketing angle.

This is dialogue?
Looks like ass and a half.

And I thought the Shadow movie with Alec Baldwin was awful. This just looks hopelessly bad. Quite a shame.
