About Konvikt speaking in issue #1: another word balloon misinterpreted by me.

About Charity: if she indeed came out of Forbidden Tales, I think I can claim partial credit. :-)

>> The Wikipedia article on “Rao” credits Mr. Busiek with the Eldirao name, but I can’t find an independent source for that.>>

It was indeed me, with the help of Kryptonologists like John Wells.

>> Looks like the Batcave computer is the one freaking out in panel 5.>>

Hall of Justice computer.

>> I had forgotten, but in a “brazier moment” in issue #1, Konvikt actually speaks.>>

No, he didn't.

>> Also, it doesn’t exactly seem ethical for Graak to want to exploit Konvikt’s power and thereby make himself “High Lord Adjutant” of the Earth. An attorney shouldn’t have a personal stake in the outcome of his client’s case.>>

Graak not ethical! Graak stuck on stupid simioid mudball! Graak want free booze at very least! And dancing girls! And throne! And mountains of cash! And hot pastrami sandwich with pickle on side! And --

>> “Graak see nothing like this in simioid minds”: guess Graak is telepathic generally, not just with Konvikt.>>

As seen in #2, when he picked up the English language (imperfectly) via some level of telepathy.

"(much as Neil Gaiman took Cain, Abel, and Eve for The Sandman)"

Now you see, I prefer the think he took them from PLOP!

"Although Toyman has gotten grim ‘n’ gritty on occasion"

Once. Exactly once. And Geoff Johns took the curse off of that, thank god.

Of course Mr. Schott did kill the Toyman pretender Jack B. Nimball back in the pre-crisis days (With a robot cuckoobird armed with a razor sharp beak, yet), but it was all off camera and he might have suvived, so tht G&G count for Toyman remains at one.

What Andrew F said. After hints made by Kurt, I have hoped for Charity's return in this series, and I'm delighted that I was right.

I don't know if she's appeared elsewhere, but Hannah Mercer hasn't been in Manhunter.

Also, I now want a Batman/Squirrel Girl cross-over.

I'm getting a bad feeling about this - in Final Crisis, Evil wins and transforms reality and the cornerstones of the DC Universe (removing among others the Big Three from the fight). In Trinity, the Big Three get removed from the fight and their places are taken by three villains (well, at least 2 villains, the jury is still out on Enigma's case) as the cornerstones of the DCverse's reality... Are Busiek and Morrison basically telling the same underlying story? Or will Trinity link up with FC in any way??

The Forbidden Tales woman is, in a roundabout way, from Forbidden Tales of the Dark Mansion, but more precisely she is the character of Charity, who James Robinson took from that series (much as Neil Gaiman took Cain, Abel, and Eve for The Sandman) and made into a citizen of Opal City in Starman. It's nice to see characters from that series in cameos, and even nicer that (so far) DC has shown Robinson's story the resepect of not using Jack Knight since his series ended.
