The Hoff’s Nick Fury comes to DVD

Hasselhoff as Nick Fury

Sept. 30th is going to be awfully crowded on the new-release DVD racks. We all know that Iron Man comes out on Tuesday, and right next to it will be Yeti: A Love Story.

But what about that other Marvel film hitting DVD for the first time?

Can you say “Hassel …” — wait for it — “… Hoff”?

That’s right, before Samuel L. Jackson put on the eye patch last summer, the original Knight Rider was squinting menacingly at Hydra in 1998. Written by David S. Goyer, Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D brings Nick Fury out of retirement to face off against Viper and the hordes of HYDRA in this Best Buy exclusive.

I never saw this when it originally aired on FOX , or in its rebroadcasts on the Sci Fi Channel. I suffer from a serious Hasselhoff skin allergy, you see. If exposed to the Hoff in any significant dose I am compelled to claw the flesh from my own body. But they say — sometimes anyway — that you grow out of allergies. I may risk and try this one out.

You’re a braver man than I, Aron… Hopefully The Hoff didn’t provide a song for the soundtrack or anything.

Ironically, he’s probably the best part of the otherwise shitty Spongebob Squarepants movie. I love the show, or at least I did before I got sick of it, but that movie was horrible. Aside from The Hoff taking a piss at himself, that is.

Hey man, don’t hassel the hoff!

This movie was pretty much on par with Fox’s Generation X movie in that it was a tolerable, low-grade sci-fi action movie that had very, very little to do with the source material. It’s not as unwatchable as, say, Dolph Lundgren’s Punisher movie, but it’s pretty bad.

There is nothing funnier than watching people who have films vaguely connected to a hot star or trend quickly put them out on DVD to take a advantage of said popularity.

Personally, I’m waiting for whoever owns the rights to the Sam Jones Spirit TV movie to put it out on disc in time to scoop heat from Miller’s movie.

I remember that movie and, while certainly not perfect by any means, it beats the pants off of what I’ve seen of Miller’s Spirit. At least Sam Jones had a blue suit.

i tried to watch this a couple months back and i could barely get past the first half hour. know what that means… classic superhero b-movie!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve never seen this movie, but I keep thinking I should get around to torturing myself by watching the Gen X movie again, since I haven’t seen it since it originally aired all those years ago.

  7. Mysterious Stranger Says:

I loved this movie!!! It was awesome in its horribleness and honestly was a lot of fun. Don’t take it seriously and turn off your brain kinda fun.

Now if they’ll just put out the Captain America movies we’d have a crappy Marvel movie trifecta! (along with Punisher)

Best Buy Exclusive?! That means it wont be sold where it would logically make most sense (and money) – In Europe, where the Hoff is bigger Samuel Jackson and Tom Hanks together.
